You'd be surprised how many FA's had been former impactful NHLers, but just never retired long enough to linger around only to get the people's (such as yourselves) attention and perceive that kinda mockery from them. Many of them probably have too much pride to retire outright without a proper good bye on the rink in front of the fans (hoping that yes, SOME team would sign them for ONE more year), but I guess that never happened for him.
