Warning: LTIR replacements

Just a reminder:

You cannot name active waiver eligible players as LTIR replacements.

3-1 : Injury will be separated into two types: IR, injured reserve and LTIR, Long-Term injured reserve.
3-2 : When a player is placed on LTIR they must remain there for a minimum of three (3) weeks.
3-2-1 : The skater replacing the LTIR skater MUST be documented in the Transcation thread.
3-3 : Cap hit replacing the LTIR skater must be equal or lesser than the value of the LTIR skaters cap hit
3-3-1 : Multiple players may replace the absence of the LTIR skater, however; the cap hit of the replacement player(s) must be equal or lesser combined then the original LTIR skaters cap hit.
3-3-2 : Sufficient proof of long term injury must be present in order to place skater on LTIR
3-4 : When placing a player on IR his cap hit remains, however; a roster spot is open for call up. Waiver rules apply to ALL IR call ups.
3-5 : Regarding LTIR, Players whose salary is being exempt (the named replacement player) does not have to be a call up, a player with a standard player contract who is acquired the same day as the LTIR is filled can be named the replacement.
3-5-1 : If a player is acquired via trade/signing to replace LTIR skater they are subject to waivers once the LTIR skater returns, no other player be sent down in replace of the acquired player.
EXAMPLE : Fredrick Modin is replacing the LTIR skater Eric Staal, once Staal returns to the lineup, Modin MUST be sent down and is subject to waivers.
3-5-2 : Only applies if you used special case waiver exemption that the LTIR ruling grants. If you trade for a player to replace an LTIR skater you MAY keep him in the lineup upon return of LTIR skater providing sufficient cap/roster space is available.

If you have any LTIR replacements who were put there illegally please remove them by next roster lock (not tomorrow, but for the next week). After that there will be no amnesty and you will lose the offending players.

Who can be used as LTIR replacements?

- players you trade for
- players in your reserves
- players you can send down and then recall (waiver exempt)

Okay, so I have Ohlund on LTIR with no replacement ... I also named Justin Peters as a LTIR replacement for Boucher (both documented in correct thread). So if Peters is waiver exempt already, do I just need to add his salary to my cap hit and that's it?

If you add Peters as a replacement just don't count his salary... Ohlund's obviously stays on the books.

If you want him just as a call up his salary would count. If you want him as an LTIR replacement as well as a call up it would now count.

If he had to go through waivers to get called up (so this is assuming he was in the minors) the LTIR exception allows for a waiver pass! But it also comes with an auto send down once the injured player returns, or waiver exposure then.

Mike, just so I am clear with your wording, you state LTIR replacement players cannot be waiver eligible unless passsing through waiver wire, yet in the rules it states:

Then below Nick points out that an emergency LTIR callup is waiver exempt with the assumption that the player must return to minors once injured player returns. I always went by Nicks explanation, maybe i am not understanding yours correctly or am a little confused?

You cannot ADD a current, active roster player to a LTIR exemption unless the active player is waiver exempt. This could be mildly confusing as what is happening in this case, is the waiver exempt player is being put in reserves, and then called up via LTIR rules.


If the player is currently active (dressing or on bench) he cannot be added to LTIR exemption unless put through waivers on the way down; then as LTIR rules dictate he's waiver exempt for the injury call-up.
