I'm just going to chime in quickly here.

4 Conferences creates unfairness, we know this because some teams had they been in another conference would get into the playoffs won't in the new system. I Accept this point.
Here is a list of things that also create unfairness in the BBKL and real NHL

* A 21 week schedule where some schedules are much more difficult than others
* Division seeding (Why does someone get a 3 seed if they are the 7th or 8th best in the conference, why not re-seed?)
* 2 Conferences - every year there are teams that would make it if they were in the east but don't in the west and vice versa
* Travel schedules
* Head to head competition vs roto technically is "unfair"
* Locked rosters at the start of the week doesn't account for injuries like how the real NHL can change things daily etc.
* Game limits in h2h - sometimes the other guy plays 10-15 more games than you in a week

I could go on.
My point is simple. This league and the NHL are both unfair. They will both always be unfair, thats how it is.
If you want a league thats the most fair, I suggest you join a 30 team 1 conference roto league with game limits. That isn't what this league is, nor has it ever been. We have always seeked to emulate the NHL whenever possible, and for whatever reason be it travel schedules or salary purposes etc.

Arguing for the sake of "fairness" on this issue, is the same as saying as arguing against division seeds. Its unfair. We aren't about to change it though, and neither is the NHL.

Also what you guys should be discussion is how you'll work out the schedule next year, thats a much more interesting debate over this shit.

Kareem, Nick and I have talked over scheduling a bit. It will be a solid system though not to worry.

I am still hoping to have that extension at work for doing our schedule next year. It uses the same type of algorithms a professional scheduler would use. Basically you enter all your teams, set up conferences, divisions etc, enter all variables like team a must play team x 2 times min., etc...let er go and it prints out a totally unbiased schedule. It is modeling software used in determining growth and yields of the forest. Same idea as making a schedule for our league except way more complex ;) I'll talk to a few people and see what i can come up with.

probably.. and probability means the contrary might happen.
Besides, eliminating better teams before the start of the playoff and during the first round make for less competitive (less interesting) playoffs and SFC.

On top of that, your point ignore the fact some conferences might become boring during the regular season.
I dont know why youre so sure the regular season will become more boring because of these changes. I think it could be more exciting just based on the fact that divisional rivalries will be at its best. Think of it this way..you are fighting for 1 of 4 spots in a 7 or 8 team division. It really doesn't matter what other teams in other divisions/conferences do. Your matchups between divisional rivals will mean so much more. If a divisional rival adds a piece to improve their team, you might need to do the same if you have playoff aspirations...basically creating an arms race aka more excitement.

And the whole tanking argument is garbage too because teams tank right now in the current system. The same amount of teams make the playoffs..

Also nothing is ever fair..especially sports. If sports were fair, the leafs wouldve won a Stanley Cup within the past 44 years.

my point is also simple:
I don't see why we should make it more unfair than already is, when actually with a small adjustment we could make it fairer and more interesting while still following the NHL realignment.

Not seeding division leaders is also a small adjustment. It isn't being debated though is it? We could tinker and tinker with every single thing if we wanted, trying to find the most equality. But again we'd end up at a 30 team one conference roto with game limits. I understand your argument, all I'm saying is it isn't the modus operandi of our league to tinker where it isn't necessary.

only the battle between #4 and #5 spot will matter.
Finishing #1 or #4 basically won't make any difference.
More often than now you'll have some conference where the battle for playoffs will be decided way before the end of the RS.
I think it could be more exciting just based on the fact that divisional rivalries will be at its best. Think of it this way..you are fighting for 1 of 4 spots in a 7 or 8 team division. It really doesn't matter what other teams in other divisions/conferences do.
that's actually a minus for me: with the current format every week there are more relevant matchups for my team than next year.. so more matchups to follow -> more fun.
Your matchups between divisional rivals will mean so much more. If a divisional rival adds a piece to improve their team, you might need to do the same if you have playoff aspirations...basically creating an arms race aka more excitement.
there will be less teams involved in a playoff race though
And the whole tanking argument is garbage too because teams tank right now in the current system. The same amount of teams make the playoffs..
no one is saying tanking doesn't exist already.. just that it will probably become worse because of more teams eliminated early from the playoffs (or the same teams eliminated earlier than now).

saying tanking already exists so we shouldn't care about it is exactly the same as saying the current system isn't exactly fair so we shouldn't care about fairness..

my point is, instead of making those flaws worse we should use this opportunity to improve on them.
