Some confusion regarding roster submission/waiver eligible

Post by kimmer »

Roster submission day is Saturday, Oct 1st @ 12 noon EST. We're looking for your starting lineup & 0-3 extras, cap information, AND any players who are WAIVER ELIGIBLE (150 gp or over, 28 or older for skaters & 75 gp or over, 28 or older for tenders). Selected in the waiver draft is consider to be signed to a minor league contract and can begin the year in the minors before roster submission. Those players would need to clear re-entry waivers to be recalled. Remember, when putting someone on LTIR, they must stay there for a minimum of 3 match ups; IR for at least 1 match-up without any replacements
I must have misunderstood this section clearly, because when I submitted my roster and those labeled "Waiver eligible", were freely claimed by other GM's...

All I meant by making the distinction between my waiver exempt/eligible in my roster submission was that, when during the season I need to move my guys up or down NHL/AHL, these players are to go through waivers or be exempt from it.

I honestly did not know that submitting the opening day roster with waiver eligibility players separate from exempt players meant that it was a free-for-all claiming period of players within that period of time. I was simply just making a distinction between exempt/eligible players due to categorical difference (age/NHL GP).

ie. Luke magically claimed Matt Ellis from me not too long ago, thinking that I put him on waivers thru this roster submission, but all I wanted for him was to remain in my reserves and start the season the marry way. I did not intend for him to be claimed by making this roster submission.

Can anyone help me get Ellis back

oh wtf, so all "waiver eligible" players who I wanted to start on "Reserves" must all clear waivers? so they are all subject to some free-for-all claiming spree during these times? Fuck. But I can't afford to put some of these waiver eligible motherfuckers on active/bench. They cost too little and I won't make the cap hit requirement.

Damn, it's hard to run an NHL team.

If this is the case, I know motherfuckers who didn't bother making waiver eligibility/exemption distinction on their roster submission or lying on their shit and being neglectful because I know I can claim some of the guys around the league. They better be honest.

i gotta agree here, thats the same way i understood the rule to work, i was totally surprised ellis was placed on waivers and i wanted to add some depth so i grabbed him... there is nothing put into that section that you may lose a player if he is put into the waiver eligibility spot during roster submission, i believed the (waiver eligibilty slot in roster submission) was simply to make it easier to track waiver eligible players down the road

Even if that were the case Luke, you would have to list said players on the bench or active lineup if you had any intention of keeping them, it's common sense really.

I have common sense, but just that I've never gone through this part of the NHL season with BBKL before, and I don't know all the implied rules.

It's the fact you didn't have them on your roster or bench.

If he was on your bench AND in the "waiver eligible" it would make sense. But not having him on your 23 man roster, than seeing him under "waiver eligible", one would assume you're placing him on waivers.

I wish we could handle the majority of our league matters on CBS and not on the message board...including the draft and waivers and we don't have the ability to keep track our actual cap number on the site because it includes all our prospects and their cap hits. We have 30 guys running their teams and seemingly doing it 30 different ways. If the CC wants to put some restrictions on "poetic license" on how we post trades and post our rosters...it would take away a lot of the confusion. Some will go the extra mile and keep a good record of their roster and picks and trades and some will only focus on their players or just players and picks or spotlight their prospect or show off their accomplishments.

I brought up the idea the other day...if we're worrying about position eligibility, why not have a way to track waiver eligibility/exempt status here or on CBS. On the Excel spreadsheet I use to track salary and what not, I have a series of if/then formulas that tells me if a guy is exempt or not based on age and GP. It might take a little work but take all the waiver exempt players and keep track of them for the season until they're older than 28 or past 150 games. We're such a thorough league but yet its some of the fine details that aren't covered close enough.

I guess what I don't quite understand...are guys exempt all season or would their status change during the season if they reach a certain threshold?

Waiver status is retroactive to the first day of the season.

I was told it is retroactive to the first day of the year? Is it year or BBKL season? confusing...yes...

In this issue though, simply put, you cannot place any waiver eligible players in the minors to start the season. UFA's and waiver exempt players only.

You can, but they need to clear waivers to actually report to the minors.
