BBKL Power-Rankings #2 - October 1st

Post by Chris »

1. COL (Last Week: #2) - Kessel shuffled out for a bigger impact forward in Pominville - gets two assets as well.
2. NJD (Last Week: #1) - Quiet week. Rumblings of a bigger move sometime soon.
3. LAK (Last week: #4) - Huge trade to get Big Buff and poor-man's Schenn. If Seguin breaks out, possibly 1st overall...
4. TOR (Last week: #5) - Quietly moving up with each trade - deep, talented, with assets to bear. Don't underrate his move to get Brassard...
5. TBL (Last week: #3) - Like NJD, quiet week.
6. CHI (Last week: #6) - It takes all the running you can do to stay in the same place. Rumours of being a Red Queen won't go away)
7. MTL (Last week: #9) - Slowly moving up. Very underrated team. No offensive stars, but lots of bangers, grinders, and periphs.
8. STL (Last week: #7) - Didn't drop because he made a bad move;dropped because of the recent activity at the top.
9. CLB (Last week: #12) - Rumours of Crosby coming back earlier than anticipated will provide a Mentos and Carbonated boost.
10. WSH (Last week: #10) - Quiet week for WSH. Holds interesting assets, but running out of time to fix his goaltending.
11. PHI (Last week: #19) - Biggest jump on the list. Picks up Carlson - now if only he could fix that goaltending...
12. BOS (Last week: #8) - Quiet week. Competitive team, but no one knows what card he holds...
13. OTT (Last week: #11) - Rumours of Hemsky's imminent move has been imminent for a month now!
14. SJS (Last week: #14) - New GM, old blood. GM promises more proactiveness in the trading market, but needs surround his pieces with better support players.
15. MIN (Last week: #13) - Another quiet week for MIN. Drops due to his Turris problem - could rise if Turris comes back and breaks out.
16. BUF (Last week: #13) - Picks up Lupul, only loses one peripheral (and replaceable winger) and two well-regarded prospects.
17. ANA (Last week: #15) - Loses guarantees for maybes. Bright future - and Doughty's back!
18. NYI (Last week: #17) - A moment of silence will be held for Mr. Underwood as he tragically lost his testicles sometime last year.
19. EDM (Last week: #18) - Only losing ground due to questions about Connolly's health.
20. NYR (Last week: #20) - If Scheifele makes the team, this team can only rise. A dark horse to contend this year. Keep your eye on this potential beast of the East.
21. NSH (Last week: #21) - All's quiet on the Eastern front. Rumours of imminent Western invasion won't go away. On vacation.
22. FLA (Last week: #23) - Some major question marks. Will the goaltending hold? Will the defense improve? Will Stastny bounce back?
23. WPG (Last week: #27) - Some upswing can be expected here. Dark horse. Keep your eye on Compost Heap of the Great White North.
24. PIT (Last week: #22) - Loaded with talent and upside. But will need to do more if tanking's a priority.
25. DAL (Last week: #26) - Hodgson on the second line after a quiet preseason. If he produces, watch out.
26. VAN (Last week: #24) - Trades away his first-born, his wife, his dignity for Brayden-Fuckin'-Schenn. Upside everywhere. Will contend as soon as next year.
27. CGY (Last week: #28) - *angrily yells and mutters in French*
28. CAR (Last week: #29) - Hurricane Paul. And don't you ever forget it.
29. PHX (Last week: #25) - Apparently suffering from some post-partum depression.
30. DET (Last week: #30) - Patience is the only thing for the DET GM to keep in mind.

good job Chris. But ranking PHI ahead of BOS and OTT, takes away all credibility lol.

I like Lee's team. Solid and underrated IMO. Mind you, I did this very quickly after I found out Kareem was doing the same thing. Plus, I like being different.

Yea good read. I guarantee my team will be a lot better than the power ranking guys are stating. If you go based on last years stats, i agree I am a bit weaker. I also have some players who were injured or did not play in my lineup that i expect to be big contributors. Andy Sutton, Kyle Okposo, Peverley with Bergeron and Marchand, Stafford killing penalties to go with his first 40 goal season ;) I think my weakness will be faceoffs, hits and pims. My main area i need to improve on. My Calgary 1st will most likely be moved in acquiring a player that focuses on those stats. i am going to roll with what i got for a few weeks and see what shakes out before i decide if I got the squad to be ultra competitive. I do love how the league has really stepped up the want to be super competitive as a whole.

Not to mention that Tim Thomas will not repeat last season, or even come close...Your team as of today is alot weaker Kyle, I believe mine is too.

Oh for sure it is weaker(my team), no arguments here. I think that the league as a whole is a lot stronger though, too. When i look at all the teams, top to bottom, I think we are damn close to the league parity we all had issues with previously. This has happened a lot faster than i had anticipated too.

I have to disagree though about Thomas. The guy has never gotten the credit he deserves. He has won the Vezina 2 out of the last 3 seasons. Is he not an elite goaltender even at the age of 36? He is in better shape now than he was when he was 23. He is insane when it comes to Yoga and strengthening. To say he will not even come close to last years is probably true as it was the best year a goalie could ever have and he broke records. But using that as a benchmark for success is not really relative. He will be one of, if not the, best goalie in the league this year again. Whether or not he comes close to last years numbers is another question.

He is definitely elite, but I think you would agree, his awesomeness last year gave you a significant edge over every other team.

Yea there came a point in the season where I pretty much started with a 3 category head start.

Maybe a lil bit egotistical or self-serving. But I like my ranking in this one.
