Interesting Problem for Chicago next season!
Interesting Problem for Chicago next season!
We heard yesterday from TSN’s James Duthie that Toews earned a $1.3-million bonus for winning the Conn Smythe Trophy, which puts Chicago over the cap at least $1-million.
What wasn’t revealed was the fact that both players hit all of their entry-level bonuses this season, meaning an extra $5-million in addition to their base salaries against the cap. It’s exceptionally complicated to calculate exactly how far over the Blackhawks now are, but in looking at the numbers and talking to a few people today, I believe it to be about $4-million.
That $4-million (or whatever the number ends up being), in other words, is coming off next year's cap.
Both players maxed out all of their ‘A’ and ‘B’ bonuses this year to push their team over the cap, meaning that while every other team will be working with about a $58.5-million cap next season, Chicago’s cap "penalty" will mean a ceiling of closer to $54.5-million.
And the Blackhawks already have $57.6-million in salary commitments with only 14 players signed for next season

Huet + Campbell + Sharp
for
Kaberle
Then Toronto sends Huet to the minors, and getting Sharp makes up for taking on Campbell's salary. In future if Campbell sucks we could send him down to the minors.

I wouldn't touch Campbell's contract unless we got Seabrook, Keith, Toews, or Kane, and since that isn't happening I wouldn't touch that contract. I don't think people realize how much 7+ million on a Kaberle type defenceman affects a teams ability to manouver under the cap.

the worst thing is that he's not even on Kaberle's level... he is a slick skating dman... he's not a slick passing dman... kaberle is elite in both regards.....

We don't need to do a deal like this IMO.
Re: Interesting Problem for Chicago next season!
but if we're just going to send them both to the ECHL... no big deal IMO.... free trade for sharpe & beach

It would be nice, but not even MLSE can afford to swallow that cap hit and term, and I'm quite certain Campbell has a NMC in his contract.facey wroteCOLONbut if we're just going to send them both to the ECHL... no big deal IMO.... free trade for sharpe & beach
Re: Interesting Problem for Chicago next season!
I'm sure Chicago executives don't really give a shit.. they just won the cup!

ye, my comment was intended to highlight how horrible those contracts are.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONIt would be nice, but not even MLSE can afford to swallow that cap hit and term, and I'm quite certain Campbell has a NMC in his contract.facey wroteCOLONbut if we're just going to send them both to the ECHL... no big deal IMO.... free trade for sharpe & beach
but tbh: it doesn't matter to the hawks, it was all worth it... they won the cup

tallons name should be on that cup.
Re: Interesting Problem for Chicago next season!
I'm thinking the Bruins are going after Sharp or Versteeg and Wheeler will be in the package with maybe Tor 2nd depending on who for.
