Disproving a Common Myth
Recently, I have had alot of people tell me that Ryan Nugent Hopkins will not make the Edmonton Oilers this year, or that the "odds are stacked against him." It is also appears to be a common perception among hockey analysts and reporters alike, not only this season, but virtually every one in the past with a few exceptions. However, the truth of the matter is that #1 forward selections almost never fail to make the cut following their draft. The move is almost unprecedented.
2010: Taylor Hall
2009: John Tavares
2008: Steven Stamkos
2007: Patrick Kane
2005: Sidney Crosby
2004: Alexander Ovechkin
2002: Rick Nash
2001: Ilya Kovalchuk
1999: Patrik Stefan
1998: Vincent Lecavalier
1997: Joe Thornton
1993: Alexandre Daigle
--------------------------------------------------
1991: Eric Lindros (failed to make the cut)
As you can see the last #1 forward selection not to make the NHL the year after being drafted was Eric Lindros, and that decision was entirely impacted by Lindros' unwillingness to play with the Quebec Nordiques. In modern day hockey, it is an unprecedented move.
In conclusion, those of you who think RNH are at odds to make the Edmonton Oilers are retarded.

Re: Disproving a Common Myth
I dunno why but I really don't like RNH at all.
Re: Disproving a Common Myth
he'll be much more valuable to the oilers than any BBKL team. sort of like patty kane.

Re: Disproving a Common Myth
He is superior defensively, but not as skilled offensively. FTR, Patrick Kane can play on my BBKL team any time, especially at 3.75. Offensive players can cover 6 cats afterall (G, A, PTS, STPTS, SOG, GWG).anton wroteCOLONhe'll be much more valuable to the oilers than any BBKL team. sort of like patty kane.
Re: Disproving a Common Myth
i dont see him as much of a shooter/goalscorer at the NHL level tbh. G, GWG, SOG won't be anything special from him.

Re: Disproving a Common Myth
Weird that he went #1 overall if he can't do anything but pass. Stupid Oilers scouting staff. Don't they know that the oppositions defense will just take away the passing lanes?anton wroteCOLONi dont see him as much of a shooter/goalscorer at the NHL level tbh. Ovy didn't play 1 year after his draft either. Typical Russian, stayed in Russia.
