CC : Please review : Compensation packages for waiver draft

Post by Lee »

Please review the waiver spreadsheet to let me know what you think of the compensation packages in the orange text. This is based off of the following text from the CBA:

7-5 : Any new GM who takes over a team in the bottom twelve of the league will receive corresponding picks in the waiver draft.
8th – 12th – Additional pick in the first round (31st)
4th – 7th – Additional pick in the first round (5 spots after your original pick)
3rd – 1st – Two additional picks in the first round (2 spots after your original pick + 31st)

Yes, I know it's messy. I'll clean it up once we get later into the entry draft.

ehm.. one month ago you traded me the 9th overall and now you're telling me it would be the 11th instead?

Pretty sure I should be getting something at the end of the draft. But not sure what spot

Compensation is for someone who takes over a bottom 12 team.

I just know when i took over the stars at season end they had the 8th worst record haha which by those rules to me means a pick tacked on to the end

I know I was just presenting my logic for CC to yield decision...is it based on Draft order bottom 12, or is it based of the record of the team the previous season bottom 12.

just wanting to know what the precedent for this manner is more than anything.

Pretty sure just Dallas/Bill qualifies for a compensation selection.

I don't see how only Bill qualifies. I took over a team after the waiver draft and was in the bottom 1-3. As did Paul.

You guys had the ENTIRE season to shape your team. The year prior shook and shoalzie came in a similar situation to yourself, no compensation picks - and one of them even took his team to the cup finals.

The picks are for frank and bill, who inherited their teams final standings.

Yeah. Actually having tangible assets helps with rebuilding. Who knew?

Neither Frank nor Bill, or from what I recall.. the team Shoalize got... took over a team in as bad of a shape as the ones that Paul and I took over. Why do we even have that snippet in the CBA if we are just choosing on a whim who to use it on? I don't see a portion of it limiting the take over date of a team. I'd wager that the reason that they didn't get the compensation is because they didn't care about it. I do.

Quit crying.. no compensation picks. If Shoalzie didn't get any, neither do you. What's fair is fair.

Yeah Scott, ignoring things written in the CBA while enforcing that aren't is certainly a "quit crying" scenario.

The CC ruled on the situation and came to the conclusion that you and Paul are not to be considered new GMs.. which I find was a great ruling. Accept it and move on, please..

I already know the answer to this

"The CBA isn't perfect, it's still being worked on"

Sure I can agree to that. But to blatantly ignore things that are actually in the CBA? Bullshit. The compensation was put in place to help lower ranked teams. So because people didn't care about the compensation a year ago, before I joined the league, and I care about it now, I shouldn't receive the boost? Paul shouldn't? But better teams, Calgary and Dallas, should?

The CC ruled on it, and it's a bullshit ruling. One member of the CC, Mik, is pissed off because his pick might end up being a couple of spots lower than it was when he got it. He isn't exactly a fair and impartial vote.

Please, Scott, point out to me where is says " Only new GMs who join mid season receive compensation"

I do not see that.

Maybe my copy / paste deceive me, but this is an except from the CBA:

"Any new GM who takes over a team in the bottom twelve of the league will receive corresponding picks in the waiver draft."
