I actually think there is a big gap between players, I think the only good thing about this is the cap loss or if heaters didn't mix well with the team or something. I really like what minny has done this offseason.

I wouldn't be surprised. San Jose was a bad fit.

yep. people just assumed that heatley + thornton would be magic.

it simply wasn't. two slower guys on one line - it just didn't work. mikko is much more up heatley's alley in terms of a centerman methinks.

I could definitely see Heatley having a bounceback year. I just hate him and love Havlat, so.

I have little faith in Heatley, he isn't the same player he was a few years ago. Hopefully this trade gives him a kick in the ass, but I doubt.

And Anton, Spezza isn't a fast centerman either and he worked very well with Dany Heatley, I don't believe Koivu will be a better fit for Heater than Thornton, but a new situation might.

I would take Heatley at 7.5 over Havlat at 5. But this is a good trade for both teams.

spezza is certainly faster than thornton.

i think the main difference between the two is (im going to preface this by saying i watch way too much hockey)

spezza and thornton are different "kinds" passers.

spezza is more of a finesse passer like "im going to feather this right to you and land it delicately on your stick so you can shoot" kind of guy

thornton is more like "im gonna laser this fucker right at your tape so it deflects in the net whether you shoot or not"

heatley meshed so well with spez because his weapon is his shot. i see koivu more of a spezza passer than a thornton passer.

LOL, a shitty heaters (post-olympics) is very similar to havlat, except he's not as injury prone and is more physical. However Heaters has another gear. IMO his struggles have nothing to do with chemistry, and everything to do with his mental state, or perhaps the hip injury he suffered. He's getting the puck in the slot, and no finishing. If he wakes up from his slumber, or his injury improves further, he's a proven 50 goal man.

i choose the one that can still skate, until Heatley proves he can get back a step at least.

I think Heatley comes with alot of baggage and is a locker room cancer. I have never seen such a big bodied guy be such a pussy when it comes to hitting or going in the corners. He has all the offensive talents in the world but how to contain him is written on his forehead. He will have a great first year in Minny then he will figure out the party scene disappear again. He is a douche...

I agree that heaters past isn't great, but you are using that as an argument when havlat is a piece of shit as well lol. At least heaters has a couple massive years behind his name to back him up, two 50g 100pt years when havlat has never hit 80... Skill wise you can argue for havlat but when it comes to playing while the clock ticks, I'll take Mr can't skate and run away laughing.

Just read an interview with Doug Wilson and he basically said they made this trade because Havlat thrives in the playoffs and steps up his game, whereas Heatley does not and has not.

lol @ sharks fans and now the organization trying to blame heatley for their playoff failures.

13 pts in 14 games in 09/10 playoffs

this year he was playing through a broken fucking hand.

of all the teams, the sharks seem hell bent on blaming their failures on one person (wilson now heatley)

13pts in 14gms but only 2 goals.

5 goals in his last 32 playoff games.

But I agree, seems like a scapegoat once he's gone. He did play through injuries all this years playoffs.
