Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
The Carter deal was good. This one, not so much.

These two trades are going to set the Flyers back nicely. Well done Philly. Holmgren is going to get fired this season. Any bet takers?
Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
Philly will have NO problem making the playoffs this year.
People that think they're fucked are insane.

They still have an insane forward lineup, not like they traded their #1 scorer.
Voracek - Giroux - JvR
Hartnell - Briere - Leino*
Simmonds - Schenn - Versteeg
not issues there....D is still top 3 in the league, and they now have a 'les git' tender.... I wouldn't have moved Richards, but not like they're anything other then contenders.
Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
the two trades separately, i would have got it..
but when i read about Richards right after closing the page about the Carter deal..
well, i wondered if today was april 1st.
Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
Briere + Hartnell > Richards + Carter? Just dumb ...

Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
making the playoffs is never an issue for philly. this is a huge mistake. they were about a move away from being cup favourites. they are now again a 4-5 seed. does anyone think that team can beat Pittsburgh? Vancouver? Boston? Washington? Tampa Bay? lol La?Shep wroteCOLONPhilly will have NO problem making the playoffs this year.

Briere + Hartnell + Coach + Pronger > Carter + Richards?

I'm going to be captain obvious and point out who in terms of BBKL this just helped:
1) Scott - Mason in net. Nash up front lol.
2) Mike - Quick in net
3) Matt - Carter #1 C in CBJ
4) Unknown GM who owns the forward Philly will sign
5) Doughty, Penner, Johnson owners.

This team will not be able to beat Pittsburgh/Washington/Tampa/Boston to come out of the east for at least two years.facey wroteCOLONYes.does anyone think that team can beat Pittsburgh? Vancouver? Boston? Washington? Tampa Bay? lol La?

I actually I bet that Schenn will be a top 2 Center for sure. So those line are incorect.facey wroteCOLONShep wroteCOLONPhilly will have NO problem making the playoffs this year.

Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
I concur, you don't trade away your best player for someone you project as a future third line center. Whether Schenn starts in the top 6 to begin the season, or later on, I don't know, but it will happen at some point. That much should be obvious.fedro91 wroteCOLONI actually I bet that Schenn will be a top 2 Center for sure. So those line are incorect.
Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
Well... lots of people refer to the Briere line as the 3rd line, in that sense Simmonds-Schenn-Steeg is the 2nd... Dany's 18min toi indicates otherwise.

Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
It was referred to the third line because: Carter, Giroux and Richards (who played on separate lines) had as many, if not more minutes per game. That is obviously no longer the case.facey wroteCOLONWell... lots of people refer to the Briere line as the 3rd line, in that sense Simmonds-Schenn-Steeg is the 2nd... Re: Mike Richards traded to Los Angeles
Richards had 18:52/game with 2min's shorthand, and actually the least of everyone we're talking about even strength.
Crater had less toi/game and played short handed (18:14, 40second SH, for Jeff versus 18:18 that Dany played none of which shorthanded)
Giroux lead forward in TOI by a fair margin, leading their forwards in PP and SH, however Dany led the team in EV toi.
Anyways, the suggestion that Grioux moves anywhere but the the #1 centre role, that he by all indications had already, or that Briere somehow loses toi, is simply wrong. Sure perhaps in 1-2 years they project Schenn to be playing a big role, but saying he's already earned a top 6 role seems out to lunch to me.
