Some Things to Know
Some Things to Know
With long discussion in the CC.. they've come to a few decisions regarding waivers and the waiver draft. For this upcoming season some things to keep in mind:
- when acquiring a player from a GMs minors and you want to place that player in your lineup, if he's played over the 150 games (75 for a goalie) he'll need to clear waivers. Same with acquiring a player from a team's lineup or pressbox and you wanting to send him down, he'll need to clear waivers. You've been warned.
- we're going to maintain the unlimited emergency recall rule. Also, the player that's injured needs the red cross beside his name or has to miss 1 game to be determined injured and eligible for the IR.
- for our upcoming waiver draft.. any available veteran claimed can sart the year in the minors or in your lineup waiver free. They will need to clear waivers on the way up or down after that though if eligible.

Re: Some Things to Know
So if I get some guy buried on another teams depth chart in the minors, for my lineup, he has to clear re-entry for only 150 games?
Lame.

he'd have to clear waivers to even be down there...Snipeshow wroteCOLONSo if I get some guy buried on another teams depth chart in the minors, for my lineup, he has to clear re-entry for only 150 games?

Waivers are in effect all season long, so no one can start a non eligible player in the minors without him first clearing waivers.Snipeshow wroteCOLONNot if he started there from the beginning of the season.facey wroteCOLONhe'd have to clear waivers to even be down there...Snipeshow wroteCOLONSo if I get some guy buried on another teams depth chart in the minors, for my lineup, he has to clear re-entry for only 150 games?

unless he was claimed in the Waiver draft that is about to start (see OP for reference)MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONWaivers are in effect all season long, so no one can start a non eligible player in the minors without him first clearing waivers.Snipeshow wroteCOLONNot if he started there from the beginning of the season.facey wroteCOLON he'd have to clear waivers to even be down there...

What? So I can't put somebody on my farm team now in the off-season?MSP4LYFE wroteCOLON Waivers are in effect all season long, so no one can start a non eligible player in the minors without him first clearing waivers.

its simply unrealistic... NHL vets need to clear waivers... use your bench... we have GP and cap regulations for a reason... it kills the league having too many full time players in the minors...
real life the guy would need to sign a minor league contract (replicated by out waiver draft)... or clear waivers.... why should we be different?

Re: Some Things to Know
Dude. Waivers don't come into effect until a certain date in the real NHL. That's a fact. So in reality, we are being DIFFERENT than the NHL..
http://www.nhlscap.com/waivers.htmQ: How long is waivers applicable?
A: The waiver period starts from the 12th day before the start of the Regular Season [for 2007-08, the start of the Regular Season is October 3, 2007 – the games played in London do not count as the start of the season] and end on the day following the last day of a Club’s Playing Season [which means that for playoff teams, waivers may still be necessary while the team is playing; generally, this would apply only to re-entry waiver requests].

Re: Some Things to Know
we know shep, but it is not realistic having the # of vet players we would in the minors.
we regulate GP, GMs having Vet's in the minors is essentially stealing GP.
this was all discussed at nausea in the CC... we weighed the options as felt this was the best method

Fuck me.
How the hell am I supposed to know if the player was on somebodies roster and not in the minors when I acquired them, then?

i dunno what u mean?
your roster is fine... u have 20 NHL players and what looks to be a large group of prospects who are waiver exempt.
Re: Some Things to Know
Yes, but say, for example, I acquired Jeff Finger earlier in the off season. I likely want him on my farm team and not taking up any cap space unless I need him on emergency recall as I have 8 other NHL Dmen. Now, I am PRETTY sure he was in the minors on the team I acquired him from, but how I am to be sure?facey wroteCOLONSnipeshow wroteCOLONFuck me.

This rule claims I can't place him in the minors in the off season (which is allowed in the NHL), so loading up on NHL players is meaningless if I have to put them on waivers before the season starts if I am over the 23 roster max..

Re: Some Things to Know
i think thats the purpose of the rule...
having 8 nhl dmen means someone else only gets 4... and although finger is expected to be in the minors.. he was active for the leafs all of last season, would have had to clear waivers for them....counted vs their cap....etc....

Re: Some Things to Know
This is exactly my my problem with this.. there are guys who were/are in peoples minors that would need to clear on the way up so we shouldn't be able to start guys in our lineups either. Rules are rules.. I have no fucking clue if Ortmeyer or Ryan Shannon were in the GM I acquired them from lineup or not..Snipeshow wroteCOLONYes, but say, for example, I acquired Jeff Finger earlier in the off season. I think we need further discussion on this topic.. maybe here with the rest of the league to get others opinions
I'm all cool with the waiver wire being opened all year when it isn't even realistic but we need a roster submission date and then re-start waivers because of the mess we're in.. no doubt about it!!
