Re: Cap going up to $64-mil
With the National Hockey League Entry Draft less than a week away and the potential for trades escalating this week and next with the free agency period looming, the salary cap will be going up by nearly $5 million next season.
Clubs and agents are being told next year's salary cap will be set at an upper limit of $64 million with a floor of $48 million.
During the 2010-11 season, the salary cap had an upper limit of $59.4 million.
The league's cap - entering its seven season under the current collective bargaining agreement - has risen every year since the end of the NHL lockout when the cap was set at $39-million.

Re: Cap going up to $64-mil

4.8M cap increase going towards fitting in Sid the Kid whose cap hit is becoming easier to fit in year-by-year .
Re: Cap going up to $64-mil

Shiv his salary may get less year by year but his cap hit remains the same on your roster through 2012-13.SuperMario wroteCOLON4.8M cap increase going towards fitting in Sid the Kid whose cap hit is becoming easier to fit in year-by-year .

Great for the league if they're jumping it up that much. When they negotiate the next CBA, the owners can't cry poverty because revenues appear to be up and getting better each year. It's encouraging for the health of the league if it continues to go up and if a lot of the teams can spend up near that amount. I'm excited this offseason as a Wings fan, that's for sure. Whether they have Nick back or not, they'll be a major player in free agency.

Apparently theres a presser for 11 am to announce a 1 year extension.Shoalzie wroteCOLONGreat for the league if they're jumping it up that much. Yeah, just saw the news on HF...great news!
(I'm sure Shiv is happy)

I like this. Helps me keep Seabrook and his raise. It is all relative to the increase in revenues i guess. Expect to see some bigger payouts on Jul 1.

Re: Cap going up to $64-mil
lol chuck i meant that Sid's 8.7M salary was a bigger proportion of the cap in 2009 than in 2010 etc etc. every year as the cap goes up, Sid's cap hit occupies a smaller proportion of the cap space available.Habber wroteCOLONShiv his salary may get less year by year but his cap hit remains the same on your roster through 2012-13.SuperMario wroteCOLON4.8M cap increase going towards fitting in Sid the Kid whose cap hit is becoming easier to fit in year-by-year .

Really not a shocker though.
I figure he'll know it's time to retire the first time one of his shots gets blocked.
