Waiver draft eligible player clarification
I keep asking questions about the waiver draft...apologies...but since I have the 2nd pick, I want to make sure I know who all are in the pool so I can make sure I don't exclude anyone that may be eligible. Obviously, we've started the free drop period...I know all NHL veteran players are eligible for our draft. All college and major junior undrafted free agents are eligible...I've been keeping a close eye on who signs and where.
I guess my real question is what is the threshold for drafted players that can be made available? Is it essentially any player that didn't sign when they were originally drafted and re-entered the entry draft pool, would they be eligible? There's a period of time where a drafted player must sign with their team before they're either free agents or they re-enter the draft. I believe in our entry draft, you're able to draft all guys in 2011 draft pool as well as any guy that didn't get drafted last year from 2010's pool or perhaps even 2009.
Just looking for some clarification...I'm going to assume players can either drafted in the entry draft or the waiver draft but not both. I've read our CBA rules on waiver eligibility backwards and forwards and I don't think it does enough to explain our waiver draft. Thanks!

Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
yes they could be drafted in both..
ex. I drafted Rasmus Rissanen in 2009, but I have since released him, and he is unowned.
This year he would be waiver draft elidgible.

Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
This is what it needs to be imo; however we probably need to make it clearer who are eligible for our entry draft and who are not.bills09 wroteCOLONAny player that is not owned nor is draft elidgible.
I guess you can answer it works the same as in the NHL, but i seem to remember we had some grey areas about this.
So i can hear Shoa's request.
Btw, i think we also needed to define the period of time where you can freely pick up draft eligible players after the draft.
Personally i would erase that period anyway, as it doesn't seem to make sense to me..
if a player remains eligible for the entry draft of the following year i don't think he should be claimable after the current entry draft is over.
And if a player is not eligible for the entry draft but has not a NHL contract either, i don't think he should be available right after the waiver draft. I mean, if you want him use a 7th or a 3rd W to grab him.
I'm talking off what i remember, didn't go back to check the CBA, so let me know if i'm getting it wrong.

Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
Thanks Bill!
Is there way to know which 2010, 2009...and so on draftees have been dropped by a team in our league? I'd assume any drop would be listed in our waive/drop thread.

Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
I'm still looking for actual date.. IE no one born after june 5th 1992 is eligibile for the waiver draft, no one born before the same date is eligible for the entry draft.
Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
Id say 2009 picks are waiver elidgible this year..
Next year 2010 picks.
Next year 2010 picks.
Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
so i guess who was eligible for the 1st time for the NHL entry in 2009 is not anymore eligible for the NHL entry draft starting with 2011.bills09 wroteCOLONId say 2009 picks are waiver elidgible this year..
But.. weren't there some differences between N.A. and Europeans when it comes to eligibility for the NHL entry draft as overagers?
Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
Let me just put this up:
Entry Draft Eligibility
All players age 19 or older [(i) any player who will be age 18 on or before September 15 in the year in which such Entry Draft is held, or (ii) reaches his 19th birthday between September 16 and December 31, both dates included, next following Entry Draft, can attain eligibility by delivering to the League a written notice (Opt in Form) prior to the later of May 1, or seven days following the date such player finishes competing on his team in the year in which such draft is to be held.] are eligible for claim in the Entry Draft, except:
(i) A Player on the Reserve List of a Club, other than as a try-out;
(ii) A player who has been claimed in two prior Entry Drafts;
(iii) A player who previously played in the League and became a free agent pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
(iv) A player age 21 or older who had played hockey for at least one season in North America when he was age 18, 19 or 20

Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
So basically anyone born after Sept 15th, 1991- sept 15th 1993 is eligible for the entry draft, anyone born before sept 15th, 1991 is eligible for the waiver draft?
God damn these kids make me feel old.

Re: Waiver draft eligible player clarification
The extract from CBA that Scott posted doesn't seem to cover Europeans.
And i still think there were different rules for N.A. and Europeans to determine how long a player remains draft eligible.
