Timelines for each event

Post by hong57 »

Hi,
Since the offseason has started and lots of transactions coming up before and after the draft, may I propose that the CC should make a timeline or set a rule when we will have the event each time of the year? So everyone is aware. Some important ones are:

1) Waiver Draft
2) Entry Draft (for example, you can say is 2 days before the real NHL draft)
3) Any amendment of category for next season (i think this one should be decided at the start of offseason so ppl know what they want to trade for.. and this should be an on going assessment during the regular season)

That's all I can think of for now.

There is literally zero discussion about anything in the CC right now.. and there hasn't been for quite some time. It's rather irritating. It's been a revolving door forever..

CC Chaos and Scott says he isn't competing next year  . Never seen this story before.

If they aren't doing anything though, have a vote and get new blood in there. Its the end of our season anyway.

It's frustrating to be in the CC and ask a couple members of the league when the waiver draft will be and not get an answer. We do need to tighten up our operation. It's a lot of work to put this together and keep it from getting out of control. I don't care who it is but I'd like to see someone around here flexing their muscle.

Last year's waiver draft started on Monday, May 31 and lasted about two weeks and allowed the entry draft to start more than a week later. I think we can do this around the same time this year...Monday, May 30 to start the draft. The actual entry draft starts Friday, June 24. I know we like to run our draft around the time they run theirs. I think we should able to get the waiver draft done in the same amount of time or in enough time that we should be able to start the entry draft on time.

As for the player drop deadline, just have it the week prior to the waiver draft. I thought we're all supposed to drop at least one guy, right? I say Friday, May 27 is the drop deadline.

There...

i think there are reasons for that, and please note i'm going to talk about it without any polemic intent (sorry for this being a bit too long).

1)
The main reason perhaps is the way the whole CC thing is expected to work.
The CC brings up arguments and discuss them, only for the admin group to step in somewhere to take a decision.
And most times, being a CC member the perception is that instead of having the whole admin group discussing/examining the brought up argument, it's just you deciding accordingly to your opinion, one that rarely gets affected by the aforementioned discussion. So the perception being a CC member is that your opinion is what matters anyway, and unless you are the one asking for opinions, you already have a set one that won't be affected.
This obviously does NOT encourage discussions: why spending hours debating over something when your opinion (or the admin-group's one) might already be set on that..
speaking for my case, being called a retard and a whining pussy when i argue over something by the one who seems to be taking most decisions obviously suggests to me i should better take a step back and wait for when an opinion is asked over something that doesn't seem to be decided yet instead of wasting time (not that i have not being quite active anyway).

So this first point relates to 2 facts:
-CC members hardly have any decisions power
-the perception you (or admin-group) will take your decision no matter what, often without answering/caring-about the brought up arguments ("it's not a big deal" and "stop being pussies" are not exactly fulfilling answers).

reality might not be 100% what perception suggests, but perception is what matters as for making people to take a step back.
It's like most are just waiting for you: if you don't take part in a thread (like the "off-season agenda" one Nick started this month) the discussion stagnates waiting to realize if it's worth the time; if you join it stating your opinion is set and clear, adding to the discussion will be whining without results.
When you join and things seem to be undetermined yet, that's when people feel encouraged to contribute.

Of course, this is only one problem.

2)
lack of final step:
sometimes arguments get discussed in depth, a decision seems to be reached, but then it doesn't get 'ratified', i.e.:
- made official and clear in that particular thread by an admin group member
- announced and made official on the public forum
- added to the CBA

3)
lack of CC agenda:
the CC clearly needs some kind of schedule for things that need to be addressed.
Obviously i don't mean that a particular argument has to be discussed on a particular day, more like periods of time.
What i mean is something like this:
each admin or CC member has like a week to bring up matters that need to be addressed during the off-season.
then an admin or the CC chief makes a list of such arguments and some kind of ensuing schedule (weighing in urgency and how matters relates to each other), which means.. on week 1-7 we will discuss and decide on that, on week 8-14 we will discuss and decide on this.. and so on... i guess someone has to be accountable for releasing the agenda for that to happen (regularly in the future, not only now).
at that point, CC members know when they are expected to fill in on that argument (so they somehow become accountable for that, if a CC member often fails to do it or to explain his reasons, he gets substituted).
Until we establish an agenda, we are left to the goodwill of the day.. and it's unlikely something gets discussed and decided on one day anyway, so you already need 2 days or more of shared goodwill (and time available) in a row to reach a resolution over anything lol.
What happens instead is members tend to wait and see whatever new argument shows up, meanwhile when they have some free time to spend on the league, they will rather care about some funnier and more personal stuff: discussing trades; heck, if they don't, while they are busy thinking about the rules some of their competitors will find a good deal instead of them...

all 3 points seem very important to me.
The good news is that it seems to me all 3 can be fixed if we want (#1 seems the only delicate one), and doing that would instantly make the CC work much better.

actually, this is one of the few things that was discussed and we seemed to reach an agreement on:
start of the Waiver draft on july 15th (or such).

It's just a perfect example for the #2 point i mentioned in my previous post.

Boys, I would like to give up my spot in the CC. I cannot dedicate the time needed this offseason and the next little while. I am building a house and moving out of another. I will have a few week period with no internet (trying to avoid that!) With a young kid at home, summertime is going to be very busy and i would be doing a dis-service to the league if i could not dedicate the time needed. So if deemed necessary, i support my replacement in the CC.

If July 15 was brought up, I never saw it unless it's under a thread of another topic. We need to stay on topic with issues in there and not turn it into a chat room. It's not the champagne room...we're a committee.

+1, your input and opinion are always objective and for the good of the league, and most mature of all (that's the greatest compliment i can give to a bruins fan lol). even your input is only once a month it will be worth every single dime.
btw, good luck to your real life stuff =)
