Re: LA - Dallas
that's an expensive 1st round pick! odds of the player ever being even an oldie-level Shane Doan is very low...

He turns that 1st (15th overall) into Det's pickfacey wroteCOLONthat's an expensive 1st round pick! odds of the player ever being even an oldie-level Shane Doan is very low...
It becomes 1st or 2nd
back to the condition --- hence trading Doan for the 2nd overall pick
Re: LA - Dallas
Just saying that's a heavy price to pay for a pick... Doaner is a beauty
I never understood that condition, and it's contrived enough that it should not have been allowed, but regardless, good move meeting the condition.

Re: LA - Dallas
we need a link to the conditions linked with that pick, i think i'll never be able to remember those lol

Re: LA - Dallas
thx, it only speaks about Detroit's 1st though, that alone tells me nothing about 1st rd pick 2011 (NYR).KapG wroteCOLONhttp://bbklhockey.com/viewtopic.php?f=4 ... ang#p15534kyuss wroteCOLONwe need a link to the conditions linked with that pick, i think i'll never be able to remember those lol

the ranger pick is 14th overall so that would cover the part of the condition that says to get the detroit pick back the dallas gm would need to trade me a top 15 1st in 2011, leaving only the 2nd to be acquired now. (as long as the pick stays in the top 3 after the lottery which is looking likely.)

Re: LA - Dallas
anyone who wouldn't pay a 36 year old for the 2nd overall pick in a draft is nuts
especially if it's a rebuilding team like Dallas

I think all they meant is that a 1st could have been had for cheaper.sgupca wroteCOLONanyone who wouldn't pay a 36 year old for the 2nd overall pick in a draft is nuts

But I don't mind this deal at all for Dallas. Need to do what has to be done.

Re: LA - Dallas
Just because that's the next step doesn't mean that was the trade....
Trading away awesome NHLers like Doan for a mid 1st is why we have teams in shambles...at least IMO. I am not saying he should not have gotten a top 15 first which insures that he gets to keep the top 3 pick, but there is lots of time to find a top-15 pick at a much more reasonable price, once again...just MHO.

Re: LA - Dallas
As time would have went on most people with a top 15 pick would've figured they had Bill by the balls and demand a lot more. The top 2 picks can land Bill a ton near the draft and Shane Doan will be a small price to pay. This was a must move early, before draft pick prices skyrocket imo.
Re: LA - Dallas
I dislike this trade a lot but it's an early lesson to the new guy to shop around. He told me about this offer and I instantly said I would beat it but it was already a done deal. Wish his trade buddy could see that the end doesnt always justify the means, could have gotten a lot more.

Bill justified the trade to me. He could've gotten more but he definitely didn't get hammered.shooker wroteCOLONI dislike this trade a lot but it's an early lesson to the new guy to shop around. Re: LA - Dallas
justified shouldn't be your guidance to him... building a good team and understanding league value should.
