My point is, while I feel neither are suspendable, Chara's hit was worse and he got no games. While Gillies got 10 games.

Chara is a respected 13 year vet with no history, he plays hockey and makes hockey plays for a living. He has consistently shown respect for his fellow players, lives by the 'code' and despite playing 'hard' and being a GIANT, he's managed to avoid head hits and excessively injuring his opponents.

Gillies has a very short history with the league, has made multiple poor decisions, and has been consistently involved in plays that are NOT hockey plays, his intent and reasoning SHOULD be questioned.

Rosehill has also has a short history with the league, has not done any actions to doubt his intent, but also has not built up a reserve or history of respectable play, nor is he a player who is a hockey player first and foremost. When you play 'less' hockey, you have less leeway when accidents or mistakes happen.

My issue with suspensions are not when intent was the question, I believe the NHL does a fairly good job there. Its more when a clean and clear rule is broken, and regardless of intent a suspension is warranted. Ovi and Hossa getting away with obvious hits from behind come to mind. But then again...Clutterbuck got away with one of those just last week.

Dibenneto could have been hurt on the HEAVY hit Dion gave to him last night, no supension was warranted as it wasn't from behind, and was a hockey play. However if Dion had been hurt on the Haley hit, a suspension would have been deserved, no puck, not a hockey play, and very questionable intent.

Chara made an ILLEGAL hockey play. Suspension or not, interference is an illegal hockey play. He got 5 and a game misconduct, so not quite sure how you can call that a hockey play and say Gillies hit on Clutterbuck was not a hockey play.

Chara made a BARELY late hit/rub out where he was preventing a scoring chance... his intent was in regards to the game, hence hockey play.

Gillies hit on Clutterbuck was in relation to him not liking the hit Cal threw (which was a dirty hockey play), Buttercup was not in posession of the puck, about to score, or make a play. I didn't like Cal's play, and disagreed with that suspension ASIDE from the intent reasoning.

However, Gillies play in the NYI game, versus Tangradi was in no way shape or form legit. Dirty hit (but still a hockey play at this stage), however he had one target, and despite injuring Eric on the hit, still tried to fight. Once kicked off the ice after that whole altercation, can been see running his mouth, trying to get back out there and frankly being an idiot... This guy showed so little judgement, respect or control that his intent is going to be doubted for the reminder of his career.

I'n not arguing his hit on Tangradi. What does that have to do with this? I don't care about previous actions. I'm solely talking about the hit of Gillies on Clutterbuck and Chara on Pacioretty.

If you really think Chara's hit had less intent than Gillies hit you are out to lunch. The puck is long gone and Chara isn't even on his way to hitting him. As he gets close to the turnbuckle he gives the extra shove trying to take his head off.

That's not how I feel, but if you watch that hit and use my commentary, it is spot on.

Chara had no reason to give that extra "shove" other than frustration with the game. He knew that turnbuckle was coming up, he was not mid-hit. The puck was gone, he could have turned off, but he shoved him late.

it's not the actual push that's dangerous, its WHERE it happens. you don't shove someone on icing because you are skating full speed towards the end boards...so why should it be any different when you're skating full speed towards the turnbuckle?

it's an extremely dangerous play, just as the icing race is. and don't give me the bullshit that chara didnt know where he was, he's looking at the glass the entire way and shoves him directly into it.

I rememeber Chara from his days as an Ottawa Senator growing up. The guy isnt a dirty player by any means and the hit itself was far from dirty compared to alot of the hits out there. Yes the hit was late, but beyond that the check itself was a fair hit. He was looking up ice at the puck, didnt leave his feet (not that he would need to), didnt take a direct hit at Pacs head. From that perspective theres no suspension to be awarded.

My issue is the fact that it was a boneheaded play. No one can tell me that a player of Chara's calibre and 900+ games under his belt didnt know where he was on the ice. Thats bullshit. And every NHLer knows that the Bell Centre has that retarded stansion (Habs need the get rid of that). For that reason he deserves a suspension...for stupidity. If Wisniewski gets 2 games for a lewd gesture (a boneheaded move) then by that standard Chara should be given a suspension for his own boneheaded move.

The calls for 20 games is ridiculous, but by the same token you cant give him nothing. NHL definitely got it wrong. As for the prosecuting crap is bull but it happens in every city when something significant like this happens. Bertuzzi, McSorely, now Pacs, its not just Montreal. Still retarded though.
