I've believed for the past 3 seasons that it's mostly the media portraying him as selfish; Kovy clearly wants to win when you watching him play. A distinction needs to be made between understanding the defensive systems/letting teammates work too and doing everything you know how to do to win.

fun fact: one day in a hazy state a month or so ago, i put 100$ on the Devils to win the stanley cup. now i realize most likely i will lose that money. but if it does happen, i will win $60,000!

In comparison to crosby they are both selfish and lazy... i've made that comparison more then once... but both Ovy & Kovy work their asses off and want to win... knowing how (or various ways) to do it is a little different.

i get the argument for kovy, nick but i think ovechkin is completely different. im a homer for the pens usually but i want to see ov win the cup. the capitals winning the cup this year is probably the best thing that can happen to the nhl. id love to see a race for cups between crosby ov stamkos and toews and see how it turns out in 20 years.
