You know I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm pretty sure most of the people here trash on Spezza not based on skills and productions alone, but the fact that he is a bitch by nature lol. I don't like him purely because he is a Sens and back in his junior days he no longer wanted to play for the Ice Dogs (one of my fave OHL teams) and wanted out of Sauga to go to the Spitfires and boy did he hear it from the Sauga fans. He is a bitch by nature, but I can't argue against his talent and the monstrous production he has given for the Sens. Sure he lost some productivity since Heatley's departure but he does it all now this year - including PK he's on pace for 80-100 SHTOI and he's never even topped 25 SHTOI all through his career. I think he's a well packaged player that is talked down to because of his reputation (and his gay laugh)Habber wroteCOLONWell let me boost him back up for you. Ive watched Spezza play since his days when Jacques Martin wouldnt give him a shot beyond 10 games a season when he started in Ottawa. Hes the real deal. Haters gonna hate.SuperMario wroteCOLONdont you get it chuck? competitors need to trash spezza in a feeble attempt to lower his trade value. but i think most people are smart enough to know that spezza is a solid top line center.Habber wroteCOLONI cant understand how Spezza is so underrated in this league. Just because youre leaf fans doesnt mean he's any less of a player. Spezza is a PPG star who in the beginning had defensive issues which are now remedied for the most part. He doesnt have much support in Ottawa right now and a crappy ass coach to boot. Shiv wins this one by a landslide imo.
You Leaf fans need to stop being such haters. Just because I despise the Leafs doesnt mean I think any less of player like Grabo or MacArthur or Kadri. Get your heads out of your asses

Shiv tells me that no contender will have Ribby on their team, yet Spezza is 2M more and does less:

I did not say Spezza wasn't (or shouldn't be) a top line centre, he's a generation-type-skill-lite. However his game is still filled with holes, the team he plays on sucks, and his cap hit is very large, despite the quality of player I still believe he's over-paid. But in regard to this trade, http://bbkl.hockey.cbssports.com/player ... :p/scoring?
Belanger alone is bettering Spezza this season, bailey is also very very skilled and has the potential to be much more then his current #s & Yip is a fine tertiary piece.

how are they h2h garbage?
Spezza (should) do everything aside from BS,Hits and PIMs
Ribby is doing everything side from BS & PIMs.
But if you looked into it Shiv,instead of just saying overly bold statements, you'd find that in 2007 Spezza is better, 2008 is tight, 2009 is tight, 2010 Ribby is way better... Spezza is not the same guy he was in 2006 when his line had crazy chemistry. No need to act like there is a large age different, 3 years LOL,oh and Mike is 2 million less, no argument I agree.
But I should remember, dats is the best player, your winning the league, etc.

Ribeiro is so overrated its sad. Spezza while dealing with injuries is better than ribeiro. And spezzas 2nd half of the season is when he kills it (look it up). its not close man. to say ribeiro is better than spezza is retarded.facey wroteCOLONhow are they h2h garbage?

oh btw:
1) if you look at my comments recently including the power rankings, if rated my team below 5 other teams (not yours because i'm still better )
2) Datsyuk is the best player - talk to me during playoff time. people like you so easily forget how different playoff hockey is than regular season hockey. and in the playoffs the race between datsyuk/crosby/ovechkin/toews is an entirely different matter.

You mean people like me that actually watch and play hockey? Even the number's don't back up your argument, all we're hearing is your opinion stated as fact.
When was the last time you actually watched Ribeiro play? He's exactly the player I hope Kadri becomes; Mike does notably more to help his team win the Jason "Brokeback" Spezza.

I just looked it up, and the best portion of Spezza's seasons is typically his first 15 games:
05 -> 27pts (1.80) finished 1.32
06 -> 20pts (1.33) finished 1.30
07 -> 20pts (1.33) finished 1.21
08 -> 13pts (0.87) finished 0.89
09 -> 11pts (0.73) ** finished 0.95
10 -> 13pts (0.87) currently 0.65
**the only true part to your claim is a strong finish to last year (09-10), which is not at all typical for him (38 in 30, is very impressive btw).

2009-2010 - yes 38 points in the last 30 games.
2008-2009 - 35 points in the last 35 games
2007-2008 - 32 points in the last 30 games
2006-2007 - 40 points in the last 28 games
2005-2006 - 36 points in the last 32 games
being over a PPG every year the 2nd half is not a joke. spezza is one of the top point getters in the 2nd half of the season every year. the 2nd half which also happens to be the period in which our playoffs happen.
Re: Buffalo/ Pittsburgh
No I actually just showed that the start of the year (first 30) is where his scoring pace is the highest, hence your comment was wrong. I did not say he didn't score well in the 2nd half.SuperMario wroteCOLON [S]pezzas 2nd half of the season is when he kills it (look it up). its not close man.

#1. i said he kills it in the 2nd half not that the first 30 are worse. "its not close" was in reference to spezza vs ribeiro.
#2. lol youre such a homer for crosby that you are too blind to see that. the following statement is fact: in the playoffs, the difference between Crosby/Toews/Datsyuk is VERY debateable. in the playoffs an argument can be made for Eric Staal vs Crosby. Crosby vs Mike Richards.
im a huge Crosby fan. But homer fans like you make it sound like in the playoffs he is so far and ahead of other players its stupid. crosby/toews/datsyuk/ovechkin/richards/staal is so fucking close. my OPINION is datsyuk. but that is opinion. but do not make it sound like crosby is definitely ahead of that group. this year we could see a case made by stamkos and henrik sedin hopefully.
i only hope you are not part of the "ovechin is starting to show that he is russian" group of fans. you cant be that much of an idiot can you?
Re: Buffalo/ Pittsburgh
I'll take the best player in the world at all times. 82 in 62 playoff games is also nice to see.
