Re: MTL - DET Deal
It was a deal he and I talked about during the draft but didn't go forward with it until now...hence the 2024 picks. I was hoping to wait a bit more on it until free agency to see what happens with Brown. Borgstrom's role in Chicago has improved (?) since they're unloading guys. I'm hoping he moves back to center at some point.
Won't do anymore deals until the fun starts with free agency on Wednesday.

Re: MTL - DET Deal
Face value, not a great move. Factor in the possibility of some good gp it stings less and potentially a little bit of extra value with Borgy and maybe it comes out even.

Re: MTL - DET Deal
Kubalik and Strome aren't being tendered so they're goners on top of Dach and DeBrincat are already out. The Hawks might as well be call Ed the Ice Hogs next year. I don't care where in the lineup Borgstrom slots as long as he plays. I have a surplus of forwards so I can flip some other guys later this summer when rosters take shape.

Rumors Borgstrom being bought out
Re: MTL - DET Deal
@PuckPedia
17m
Expecting news that #Blackhawks will be buying out 24 y/o F Henrik Borgstrom (in final year of 1M cap hit with 1.1M Salary).
Buyout Cap hit:
Yr 1 83K
Yr 2 183K
Would have carried no cap hit if sent to minors. Saves 733K cash

he failed to play regularly already on two teams.. and despite having all the opportunities in Chicago last season.Shoalzie wroteCOLONKubalik and Strome aren't being tendered so they're goners on top of Dach and DeBrincat are already out. Re: MTL - DET Deal
I don't want to call this an immediate loss but it's not off to a good start. It's nothing to panic over...wasn't planning to make a lot of big moves. I just want to piece together a stable roster so I can protect as many future assets as possible.
You can't "rebuild" in this league the same way Kyle Davidson is for the actual Blackhawks. He can work with whatever players he wants in his organization and Richardson can only dress the players at his disposal. We can't just dress 18 random skaters from our full roster. We need to use actual NHLers. Thankfully, my forward group is pretty deep right now.

This deal turned sour quite fast. The worst thing that could happened is Borgstrom leave for the Europe and Josh Brown retires. Can it get worst ?Chuck Norris wroteCOLONTo DET:

I got Marchessault (now Spurgeon) and Atkinson for a Reid Schaefer and Kole Lind...you win some, you lose some.

Re: MTL - DET Deal
You're half right, Paul...I have a fair number of NHLers but I'm flooded on the wing. I'm only looking at 2 active centers (Wennberg and Colton) and I don't have a lot on defense past Ekman-Larsson and Spurgeon...and maybe Jayson Megna is a regular for San Jose. If I can swing it, I'd like to move a winger or two and replace them with another center and a defensemen. I already made the move of Marchessault-for-Spurgeon.
Borgstrom is a natural center and I was holding out hope the Hawks were hanging onto him this year during this tear and maybe he'd slot as their 3rd center...obviously that's not happening. Brown would likely be a 6th/7th/8th defenseman for a team (assuming he signs) but I can slot him into my top 6. I'd like to end up with 4 or 5 active defensemen.
On top of that, I'll probably need to find a second goalie to pair with Talbot. I survived last year with Talbot sharing starts with Fleury last year. I need another goalie to give me 15-20 starts next year to pair with Talbot.

I'm shocked with the hawks in rebuild they wouldn't have at least rolled with him for a year or two until the new team takes shape in a few years. They're likely gonna sign some fringe guys to do what Borgstrom would do!

Sounds like Arizona is in on Josh Brown. Not a great team but I'd imagine he'd get a lot of chances to play there. I like it?
