Picks being forfeited isn’t something new, has happened plenty but more so in the early years.

It's just a waste of an asset. I don't get it. I'd pick some dude on my beer league team before I forfeited a pick.

Thought it would be of interest to some of you, played hockey with some guys who work for the NHL tonight, one is a scout for a team - his prediction is that Wright will "maybe" be a top 6 forward. Just one person's opinion, but an interesting one for the predicted 1st overall pick.

So how long will Shep be on the clock?
I mean, at what time is the next team up?

Looks like about 10 bbkl GMs think those at Hockey Prospects are idiots as their #45 ranked prospects in the guide uploaded by Scott lasted till Bruyns' pick lol, at #160

No chance he goes 45 but wouldn’t be surprised if he went early 4th.

Yup, and this is why Buffalo will continue to win because the rest of us are terrible GMs that are lucky to even exist in his shadow.

I believe Scott uploaded the HP draft guide when we were around pick 150 or so

note how I traded down from #160 after he uploaded the guide though  8-)

edit: looking at Casper's pick, maybe it was right before #150, considering he selected there the #1 goalie for HP in the entire draft

I like the guides more for the write-ups than the rankings themselves. It's very difficult to rank player X from Canada versus player Y from Russia versus player Z from Sweden if they never cross paths. I'd rather read what different people have to say about the player and compare what each person sees to get a full picture.

Yes, I like this. A player might be ranked very far down, but when you read about what some scouts think about the player and what strengths they possess that give them a chance at making it to the NHL.

It's dorky but I like to take those PDFs and search the scouting reports with words or phrases that I like to see in a player.

Numeric rankings play a part in how you draft but I'll put guys in small groups based on ranking and then let the write-ups and scouting reports be my method of prioritizing guys.

It's hard to not look at measurables but we're seeing more and more than you don't need to be a giant to play in today's game.
