Impressive, but irrelevant.
Maybe irrelevant to you. For me, it's quite good news.

Still irrelevant for you. Future is what matters, not past.

Agreed. Cherry picked small sample stats almost never hold up.

Some nice post count padding though.

Looking like a good week for me, 4 big wins and my Ottawa pick might be back in the lottery.

It’s how many games he’s play though isn’t it? How is that cherry picking stats? Cherry picking, imo, is where you’d pick out a way smaller sample size and use that to try and make a point

Good battle Matthew. Goes to show the value in the conference standings race. That tiebreaker in playoffs is huge

Cherry picked as in why Now use his total games played instead of 32 or 40 or 20 even. 33 is such an odd number.

TBH I thought the same thing. Its not being dishonest which I think is what KapG is saying, but at the same time, saying player X has the most hits through 17 periods of play in history is a weird stat to post/ brag about because its arbitrary. Usually you would refer to full seasons or something more standard.

Personally, I think any rookie, leading a stat at 30 or 40 or 50 or 1 full season, in all of history, is noteworthy. Even if it were cherry picking. Most rookies will never lead a stat (let alone 2 stats) at game 27, 33, or 82, for all of history. I thought it would be fun to post, but clearly it miffed hawksie.

I just said it was a stupid stat. Doesn't mean it's not a fun stat. Like posting something like this:

Garrett Sparks was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the seventh round, 190th overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. As of 2021, he is one of only 26 goaltenders in league history, and the second most recent, to record a shutout in his NHL debut. Sparks was also the first Maple Leafs goaltender to do so.

Look at Garrett now.

5th in the league with a 1.86 GAA, quite the success story as foretold by the above stat.

He'd be #1 if it wasn't for the excellent seasons from Sawchenko, Hammond, Lindgren and Domingue.

Swayman has been excellent at the NHL level but it'll be interesting to see how he does when he gets more playing time and teams can get more of a book on him.

You're seeing the likes of Husso and Oettinger and Sorokin along with Swayman...young #2s that are outplaying the current #1 and you wonder if there's a time when the team officially gives the young guy the crease going forward. Sorokin had the Isles crease early on while Varlamov was out. Husso is playing a lot more because Binnington has dropped off. Oettinger has emerged as the Stars' steadiest goalie so he's getting a lot of the games now.

Swayman is sharing starts with Ullmark but with Rask out of the picture, he very well could take the crease from him.

Teams would be foolish not to stick with the hot hands in goal heading into the playoffs. There's been some outstanding goaltending play from Shesterkin and Andersen and Markstrom and I really think Jarry has had a nice bounce back. Some teams are solid in goal but I think other teams might still look for insurance.

Both goalies... both impressive honours... look where Garrett is. Was just saying that small sample size 'wow' look silly most of the time with hindsight.

Comparing a one game record to one where the goalie has generated almost 40 games is a bit of a weird one to me.

@KapG, I'm just saying that just because a goalie has an early small sample size that places him in the record books, doesn't make him a surefire thing.
