I looked at Mik's minors for the first time in a while.
Lundell
Mittelstadt
Luostarinen
Kakko
Podkolzin
Raymond
Bjornfot
Miller
All NHLers that he isn't playing this week, plus another 8 prospects drafted 1st round who will probably be NHLers. Crazy how far ahead he is of any other franchise in terms of asset value. I'm happy he never goes all in to try and maximize his roster.

Given the inflated price for players through the trade market, your best bet is kind of his model where he accumulates picks and keeps one of the deepest prospect pools and he takes full advantage of the waiver exempt status for his young players. He flips a veteran player when their contract value is too much for draft picks because he can back fill the roster spot with another player in his system.
I don't think I'll ever reach the level of his prospect pool but that's definitely something I want to have for my team. I'm not interested in bottoming out entirely unless I can get full value for any of my NHL vets in a trade. Work the draft the best you can and hope you find some gems and hang onto them as long as you can.
Whether you actually win a title or not, some of that is having the right roster at the right time. I think with you Matt, you've probably played the salary cap better than all of us because you have some of the best value stars in the league. Helluva an add this past offseason with getting Jack Campbell although if you kept Gibson, you'd be in good shape with goaltending.

to be fair, Kakko and Mittelstadt are injured (the latter is not in the minors as he isn't waiver exempt anymore, unfortunately), Miller is down this week because of cap considerations... and Lundell, well, noticed the Panthers only had 2 games in the entire extended period, saw I had 4 weak opponents scheduled on fantrax and didn't pay much atention beyond that... next thing I know the following day, I have a super tough week on fantrax after the update, with 4 strong opponents, and Lundell scored 5 pts on the first nightBruyns wroteCOLONI looked at Mik's minors for the first time in a while.

no wins for my team this week with this stupid schedule happening right when I had to face 4 strong teams

Mik not being able to dress his best possible lineup every week because of the cap or waivers is fascinating (and frustrating if you're one of the have-nots in this league).
No one is going to shed a tear for the fact he's got a war chest of young waiver exempt players to use in case of emergency but I really would be interested to see how good his team could be if he could actually play his best possible lineup on a regular basis. It's crazy to think he can be where he is in the standings without playing guys like Shesterkin or Lundell or Raymond on a regular basis.
Guys can only be waiver exempt for so long before you have to make moves that I'm sure he doesn't want to have to do. I get that you don't want to just trade a guy for pennies on the dollar just to make room for a better player but you're actually preventing yourself from fully utilizing the strength of your roster. His team is always an interesting case study every season.
But again, not a guy I feel sorry for because he's got players to spare on his roster. We'd all love to have that problem.

If you can't beat 4 strong teams, then it sounds like a you problem, not a schedule problem.kyuss wroteCOLONno wins for my team this week with this stupid schedule happening right when I had to face 4 strong teams

went 4 for 4 this week where the GP disadvantage was reasonable vs BUF,WSH,LAK,MINDa_Hawks wroteCOLONIf you can't beat 4 strong teams, then it sounds like a you problem, not a schedule problem.kyuss wroteCOLONno wins for my team this week with this stupid schedule happening right when I had to face 4 strong teams
