Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Came pretty close to trading the pick, but new wave of defensemen for my Preds it is... in a couple of years maybe.

Good question. Don’t know much about it. Not taught in medical school. Has a flavour of chronic Lyme disease but that is me being cynical. He may very well have a bunch of inflammatory markers elevated and end organ damage? I suspect there is a massive spectrum of disease and a number of different treatment options.Matthew wroteCOLONAs a doctor, do you consider cirs all that serious?Handsome&FairMike wroteCOLONThis excites me. Hopefully Toews isn’t too serious and he’s able to return to playing.

Breaking news this morning...very few details but the news is spreading on Twitter that Matiss Kivlenieks died suddenly at only 24 years old.
Very sad to hear. He was most recently the Latvian goalie at the world championships. He'd been the 3rd goalie in the Columbus organization. Most of his last 4 seasons has been playing with Cleveland in the AHL.

Columbus just posted a release. He died from a head injury in a fall. If that came from a mishap with fireworks, that's terrible news.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
This jogs my memory, it was the summer of my high school graduation (1999)...Flyers rookie defenseman Dmitri Tertyshny died in a boating accident during the offseason. That hit home because family was doing a lot of boating in recent years. I remember writing "DT" on my lifejacket.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
It always sucks seeing people lose their lives so young. Hockey communities have had our fair share of deaths over the years, this one won't be any easier. Hope he finds peace.

A little more background about Kivlenieks incident:
https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/317 ... oach-house
I forgot Manny Legace was their goalie coach. I had heard in passing this incident happened in Michigan. I knew Manny still lived in suburban Detroit as a lot of ex-Red Wings do. I guess that works with him being the goalie coach for the Jackets. He was briefly doing TV work with the Wings between coaching gigs.

I guess the initial report was of him slipping and falling around the hot tub but the injuries were internal (the percussive injury to his heart and lungs).

I took my young son with me to a local firework show near my mom's lake house. A buddy of mine does fireworks for his neighborhood. I get that everyday people can purchase and shoot off their own fireworks but I'm always afraid a freak accident like this. My son and I sat a safe distance from where it was happening. You don't want something bad to happen because you're too close to the action.Lt. Jason Meier of the Novi Police Department told ESPN on Monday that Kivlenieks was in a hot tub and tried to avoid the firework, along with several other people. Meier added that all signs showed that it was a "tragic accident." The percussive injury caused major damage to Kivlenieks' heart and lungs.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Seems like a good position for him. Not as a full on GM but he's obviously plugged into junior hockey. He might annoy some people on TV but you can't deny he's heavily invested in the sport.
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
If only being heavily invested automatically meant making good decisions...

Seems like Duncan Keith to Edmonton is going to happen...Frank Seravalli is reporting Caleb Jones and a mid-round pick is the return. Curious to see if Chicago eats any of the salary.
