It remains to be seen how good their prospects are but little by little, he's clearing the decks for the team to carry no bad contracts into the future. The last two offseasons he's signing guys to one or two year deals and he's flipping some of them at the deadline for futures. I'm sure he had designs on flipping Ryan before he got hurt. Nobody on the current roster is signed beyond '22-23.

At the very least, I hope Seider comes over next year...that defense has been rotten for a while. Raymond could wait another year but it would be cool to see him over too.

I'm intrigued by Bennett to the Panthers...he's been a solid playoff performer and you'd think a guy like Coach Q could push the right buttons with him. At worst, he adds more grit to their lineup.

The Panthers are absolutely a cup contender...even without Ekblad. A really good team is going to be out in the first round with the 2 vs. 3 matchup in the Central.

He's gotten a look in Detroit but his ice time has been inconsistent. He'll play 15-17 minutes or he'll play only 9 or 10 minutes. He's been okay but I don't see him in their long term plans. Not a big loss if he goes to Europe.

The wait is over...the first member of the Seattle Kraken:

Luke Henman...2018 draft pick of Carolina that went unsigned and became a free agent. He was drafted the year after Ron Francis left the Hurricanes.

Currently owned in the BBKL by Colorado, by the way.

I always assumed Zach Duke, the first Vegas player was undrafted but he was a Minnesota pick back in 2014.

I love this. Guy is getting top line usage and pp time in sjs. 7 points in 8 games. Could be a great piece for next year. Maybe more expensive long term though. He loses waiver exemption next year so glad he will be cheap.


Edit: kostin, Hutton, Bergmann all making season debuts tonight. Fun to watch. Expansion should see a group of AHL guys jump into the league.
