Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I see Cirelli and Sergachev looking more like the old school bridge deal. Important players but couldn't command what Barzal or Dubois will end up getting.
States like Texas, Florida and Nevada don't have income tax so players get what get on their contracts. The Kraken will have that in their favor also since Washington doesn't have an income tax.
It's like having extra cap room because a player can take a little less on the Lightning or Panthers or Stars...compare that states to with 4% or 5% or 6%. California is 13.3%...makes you think what guys like Doughty or Karlsson would've gotten on another team. The lowest taxed state other than the 0% is Pennsylvania at just over 3%.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
You don't get the entire state tax saving. All your away games you pay to the state you play in. So a team like LAK would pay 13.3 for 41 games, and a mix of other percentages for the other states. And Tampa wouldn't be paying zero state taxes. For 41 games they would be paying a mix of other teams taxes. So it isn't a full 13.3% over a team like LAShoalzie wroteCOLONI see Cirelli and Sergachev looking more like the old school bridge deal. Also, signing team friendly contracts (because of taxes) as an rfa without ntc rights is dangerous. If u get traded from Tampa to lak in the first year you've screwed yourself out of money.

Any good Canadian accountant / financial planner can work it all to be equal anyways so really it’s all for nothing.Matthew wroteCOLONYou don't get the entire state tax saving. It’s really strange how we don’t hear about it in basketball when players sign in California but hockey it’s a huge thing.

Gotta give BriseBois credit...didn't make any panic moves and let things play out. This cap situation shook out as well as it possible could. It buys him a year before he's got to do this dance again.

#91 - John Tavares
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Ya, Niskanen retiring solved any cap issues this season. Thought he might take maybe 4M 1 year, but pretty happy with this.kyuss wroteCOLONwowMatthew wroteCOLONAnthony Cirelli

were you expecting this much Matt?
Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Jon Toews out with illness and no timetable for return. Sounds like it may be something fairly serious?

The Blackhawks center position is a mess...Nylander and Dach are hurt and now with Toews. They signed Soderberg to fill a spot. They need to sign Strome.

Strome has all the leverage now. Could he get 4 mil per year now?Shoalzie wroteCOLONThe Blackhawks center position is a mess...Nylander and Dach are hurt and now with Toews. They signed Soderberg to fill a spot. They need to sign Strome.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Bold choice by Chara. It won't make or break the Bruins but either way, that East Division is a monster. A really good team is going to finish 5th and miss the playoffs.
Also Brassard to the Coyotes but that had rumored for a bit.
