Max and Point play different style games. Basically he's an undersized Center with great playmaking abilities and mediocre goal scoring. But he has the skating and vision to be a grade A NHL'er.Shoalzie wroteCOLONKane and Marner are good comps...even throw in Gaudreau as well. In terms of the smaller centers...Domi and Point are the leading scorers right now among centers 5' 10" and under. Throw in Marchand, DeBrincat and Atkinson...lots of good offensive players that are even shorter than Hughes.

Guys of a certain size generally play a certain way. With Hughes' case...I'd compare him to other smaller guys with skill. Smaller guys that are successful are all generally quick, shifty and play with a level of courage and determination.
Marchand is a bit of a different guy that he plays an agitator role on top of being a top offensive guy. A small guy and a big guy can fail just as easily if they don't have the work ethic and just try to glide by with skill...as if they can roll out of bed and score 40 goals a season.
Let's put it this way, not too many smaller skilled guys play a prototypical big man's game. I mentioned Marchand. You can throw in Gallagher or Trocheck as well. It doesn't hurt if a smaller guy can handle their business on the ice but it's not generally their job. If a smaller player has grit in their game, they're playing a bottom 6 role.
Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Jack Hughes always reminded me of a Patrick Kane who is even lighter on his skates (in a good way).
I guess like Kane he will also be able to improve his shot and puck protection along his career

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Is there anyone else who might be taken 1st overall?
Like, who are the top 5 guys? Or anyone have a top 10 list?

Kakko is the only one challenging for 1st overall, but as he is a W, I doubt the gets taken over the C. Then a pretty good bunch of players from 3-12. Good draft, but a clear top 2.Matthew wroteCOLONIs there anyone else who might be taken 1st overall?

As far as the players from whl/bchl this list isn't very accurate, imo. (these are players I've seen live)Shoalzie wroteCOLONMatthew wroteCOLONIs there anyone else who might be taken 1st overall?

Top of the board seems pretty close to what I have seen from others. I have seen Cozens 3rd in other rankings.
Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
the rusky is too high, should be 7-10ish, same w/ the d man

Seen the dman live and I would agree.thom54 wroteCOLONthe rusky is too high, should be 7-10ish, same w/ the d man

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Our finals are complete, Los Angeles gets the 30th pick in each round and Buffalo gets the 31st. Everything is decided except the top 15.
Now that the NHL standings are final, the Lottery Watch shows which NHL team is associated with each BBKL pick for Tuesday's draw.
I'll say it again, I really like that we don't have to wait as long as before to know the results. Season ends last night and the lottery is done before the first puck is dropped in the playoffs.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
Do we know the final rankings of the teams picking 16-31?

Also, I'm very excited to be adding jack Hughes to my team. He fits right in.

Re: 2019 Draft Discussion
I imagine we're still starting this on June 1. That's been our routine for the last few years. The NHL entry draft starts on the 21st so we wouldn't want to start any later than the 1st.
