7th dman. Lack of depth with Morin injury. That said, knowing Hakstol who hates playing rookies he will probably try and force him on the top pair with Provorov.Shoalzie wroteCOLONA couple signings for the BBKL Red Wings...
Jenner gets 4 years with the Jackets at a decent cap hit.
Folin signs a 1 year deal with the Flyers...hard to say where he'd fit into that crowded defense but he was a solid guy for the Kings when he played.
Most of my key guys now have contracts so I'll be open for business soon.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
Karlsson to Tampa reported to be done, waiting on details. Big names surprisingly quiet on it though

Staying in the East is ideal.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
If the rumors are true or not, I wouldn't crown the team that adds Karlsson just like I wouldn't start crowning the Leafs after adding Tavares. After watching a team of castoffs and misfits go to the Finals, nothing is a guarantee in the NHL. The '01-02 Wings with their ridiculous lineup were basically a center ice goal by Lidstrom in Game 3 against Vancouver from going out in the first round.
To me, it doesn't seem practical for the Lightning to do this unless they plan to keep Karlsson...and that's going to be a bitch to do when Kucherov and Point are RFAs next summer and more than half of their defense will UFAs. If Stamkos is getting $8.5 million...Kucherov should demand at least $8 million. Karlsson will demand at least as much as Doughty got. If they aren't careful, they'll become the Blackhawks...all the money tied up in a core group and have nothing to give their support players.
The idea of Dallas seems more ideal. He can even reunite with his old buddy Methot. Dallas with have their own contract issues with Seguin next summer.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I bet Tampa would be fine with becoming the new Blackhawks (with a couple of Cups..)
Also, to me it feels EK.is exactly what Tampa is missing, whereas Dallas would improve but probably not as much

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
The Blackhawks survived cap hell a few times but it catches up with you eventually. You need to be able to draft and develop to backfill your roster when you lose those good support pieces in trades and free agency.
My hot take...I'd rather have Doughty than Karlsson going forward. Karlsson's health is a bit of a concern. Doughty has surprisingly been durable considering his style of play and some extra hockey due to long runs in the playoffs. Karlsson is going to get #1 defenseman money but should be insulated by other guys to preserve him. I'd give him reasonable 5-on-5 minutes and use the crap out of him on the power play.

Like mik said, Tampa would be happy to live through Chicago's cycle.Shoalzie wroteCOLONThe Blackhawks survived cap hell a few times but it catches up with you eventually. Doughty isn't available so the point is mute.
Karlsson McDonagh
Hedman strahhlman
Soriddiculous. A defense.
Best team on paper in decades?

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
I mentioned Doughty since both guys are due new contracts at the same time...Doughty already has been extended by the Kings. I'd feel more comfortable paying Doughty than Karlsson. Not saying I wouldn't want Karlsson though...just prefer Doughty going forward.
Speaking of the Kings, they're probably closer to the Blackhawks model...multiple titles with core players locked up to a large chunk of cap and they've had issues cobbling together a roster. Granted, Voynov's situation really screwed up their defense. I'll be interested to see if Kovalchuk is a good fit on that team.
From a Lightning perspective...I think they can win a cup if they don't blow up what they have. Adding Karlsson makes them deeper on defense but I think they have a nice thing going without having any guys over that $10 million cap number. Karlsson would demand at least $11 million since that's what Doughty got. It really depends on what contracts they can move out and if they don't blow up their future.
