Kessel Trade/Breaking down the Top 5 picks next year

Post by Robin Hood »

Hey guys. My next article on deck is going to be what the Leafs ended up adding to Seguin + Knight in the Kessel deal as a preview to the HNIC match up between Boston and Toronto this saturday. Any insight on prospects who may go in the top 5 + links to articles that do so would be very appreciated. Im researching online myself but you guys are a resource in itself lol. Thanks!

hehe. Nah Letting Shiv do this one. And that has been the rave of the Toronto media of late anyway because of the team play and Kessel's contribution. Its a good topic to write about as it flows with the matchup and is a hot topic. A startign point would be for Kessel to get on the score sheet against his old team, which he has not done yet.

Kessel won't score against Boston unless we bring in an elite playmaker. The dumbass is just going to get pushed to the outside by Chara shift after shift after shift.

At least you can appreciate the frustration we had with him for awhile now. His curl, drag and shoot through the d-mans legs move can only work so many times. Speed does kill but he needs to have a few more tricks up his sleeve because he has almost become predictable and defensemen know how to deal with him now. It gets very frustrating.

It's frustrating because he could be so much more if he just mixed things up, and used his linemates more. I think for him to reach his potential he is going to need an elite playmaker to do most of the puck carrying, thus allowing Kessel to focus on being a passenger and just getting open. Similar to how he was with Savy on Boston.

problem is kessel seems to like skating with the puck on his stick which is a shame because he really doesn't have elite handling skills. He also seems very hesitant to EVER drive the puck to the net. With his speed he should be able to beat people whenever he wants comin down the wing. He just seems WAY too scared to do ANYTHING physical so instead he chooses to snap off shots from 20+feet out. *help*

I\m also SO tired of his comments after games too. Man up and admit that your play has been bawls and promise to work on improving it. Instead it's "Well I guess we need to play as a team more...." bla bla bla.

PS. I was sick of his toe drag sideshow 2 months into seeing him play last season. Can't stand this kid. I think I dislike him more than anyone we have on our team.

Did I mention he is weak as fuck?

You just hate him because of what we gave up for him, that aside he is easily our best player, and despite being frustrating is exciting to watch, and has a ton of promise yet.

Leaf fans, is there a more bipolar group of fans? He scores 5 goals in next 5 goals hes the second coming, he goes cold hes the worst player, lazy and no effort.
I agree Kessel needs to be better, and better consistently, I won't say hes horrible or I hate him, hes 23 and has no supporting talent. We've yet to see the best from him, his attitude isn't the best but I don't expect it to stay the same either.

Brian Burke has about 2 years to fix this team. Or else he will forever be remembered for the disaster that has been the Kessel trade. The thing is when the trade was made I feel it was the right move but since then the Leafs have hit new lows that have trashed the value of the trade. Burkie needs to fix this. fast

It starts with the coach. They have quit on him. Get Killer up here to coach, he will literally grab Versteeg by the throat and shove him to the ground and beat him with a golf club until he learns to block shots. Hell, Versteeg will welcome the thought of shot blocking compared to the ass beating Killer gives him.

2 Years in and our defense looks much improved and so does the goaltending. 2 more years for the offense seems fair. Special teams need to get sorted out fast though, getting ridiculous.

I get Wilson has a long leash but the thought has to be in Burke's mind even a bit. Wonder if a suitable option becomes available if we see something done. Anyone know if Dallas Eakins is any good? Seen his interviews, seems more of a players coach but don't really know.

Killer hasn't proven enough to be given an NHL gig. Options at the moment it seems are Eakins, Hitchcock, and not sure who else. Which I think is the reason Wilson is still here. If burke goes out and gets some forwards for next season and Wilson still can't hack it, hes got to get the axe.

It's not bi-polar at all, were all beginning to see the habits bruins fans complained about. Kessel is a poor decision maker, it seems he makes the same move over and over despite limited success. I don't doubt that he can be better with better players, or that he will improve, but it's infuriating to watch nonetheless.

Ron Wilson is not the right coach for this team I agree. Ironically, I think Maurice would've been perfect for this team lol. But yeah Wilson needs to go imo. This isnt the type of team he is meant to coach. The Leafs constantly try to play a game they are not built to play, they suck on the PP and PK. The only bright spot is goaltending. Thats it. And Luke Schenn.

how was it the right move? Our startin goaltender was still Toskala....OUr forward group was still a disaster and our defense was still overrated. Add in the fact that kessel wasn't even going to be playin for X amount of games and I find myself wondering how that can be so. Enlighten me

bingo.

seems to me he can't take responsibility for his play either.
