Re: LAK - DET
Hertl has been strong this year but I need a little extra from my #2 center spot since I can't seem to keep a healthy #4 in the lineup for very long. Hertl's cheap contract is up after this year and I can afford to take on the extra hit from Nugent-Hopkins. Hopefully he continues his strong 2-way play. Also needed a boost in faceoffs.
Re: LAK - DET
considering the difference in salary and the marginal upgrade not sure there was a need for a significant add on Hertl.. hopefully Point doesn't become the goalie Scott will need in the future when Smith's time is up

Re: LAK - DET
RNH has the better nickname. Never bet against the NUGE!!! Nice trade for both teams.

Think I prefer Steve's side too, that 2nd should be decently high as well in a strong draft

Ya probably a bit too much heading to Steve but that’s not atypical. Good deal

Re: LAK - DET
I've also got Cal Petersen. You can debate who the better goalie prospect is. Point is very intriguing for sure. I'm not leaving myself completely naked with goalies.
It looks like a small upgrade considering what Hertl is doing this year. Nugent-Hopkins is a 3-time 50+ point producer compared to Hertl with a single season over 40. Nugent-Hopkins has three seasons over 500 FOW while Hertl has yet to crack 300. He will this year of course.
It does look like a breakthrough year for Hertl but I think this is a sell high spot and Nugent-Hopkins is a bit more proven. You can point to Nugent-Hopkins best years coming before McDavid arrived but it's a down year for the Oilers and he's going to eclipse last year's numbers. He's a quality #2 center and I need a bit more offense and FOW from that spot.
Talk about the added salary...I've got the cap room and as I said, Hertl is an RFA this summer. He'll get a raise.

Not saying bad trade by any stretch, just it seems like a lot. As you pointed out RNH's best years were prior to McDavid coming, and they have Drai there now as well, if they are both 40 some point C's then you paid a good goalie prospect and traded a 2nd for a 3rd to get 200 FOW. It just seems like you take on a lot of the risk here and paid to do it.Shoalzie wroteCOLONI've also got Cal Petersen. You can debate who the better goalie prospect is. Re: LAK - DET
I think one good advantage here is assurances in getting a C that will stay a C. Maybe Hertl plays too much wing and gets his C status removed one day (he is new to the position in the NHL at least). I doubt that ever happens with RNH. Small victories anyways.
Re: LAK - DET
I don't mind this. I prefer nuge long term. Would have been nice to keep the 2nd is all.

I like this for both. Nice trade
Re: LAK - DET
i prefer nuge long term too.. but it is also true that even you have a lot of cap room i think a lot of teams (like me) will have to unload a lot of cap and you can take huge advantage of it.. i mean HUGE.. but nevertheless it's a good trade and i prefer nuge if not for salary difference.
