Rogers in Talks to buy MLSE
Re: Rogers in Talks to buy MLSE
Wow, that would be insane.
Re: Rogers in Talks to buy MLSE
Not sure what to think. The teachers never really didn't give enough money to the leafs, so not sure what'll change there. Maybe Rogers brings in someone better with a sports pedigree, but seems like the pension plan has had little involvement in the day to day running of the raptors of the leafs in the past few years.
Only impact then is I have to put up with shitty sportsnet stuff for every game.. well that'd suck.

Re: Rogers in Talks to buy MLSE
id imagine bob mckenzie and the tsn crew would be offered nice cushy sportsnet jobs.

Re: Rogers in Talks to buy MLSE
I hope this doesn't happen, it's never a good thing for any organization to own such a high concentration of a product, should this go through Rogers would essentially monopolize the Toronto Sports Market. That would mean the end of TSN Maple Leaf broadcasts, perhaps even the end of TSN, increased costs to watch sPNET, more specialized channels, and perhaps even a centralized PPV channel for Toronto sports. The only incentive is that their would be greater motivation to ice a winner, since good teams draw higher ratings than poor ones.

I imagine they'd set it up like MSG does, which would be its own special TV package etc. Yeah in that sense it would suck, and it would likely make TSN focus on all other markets outside of Toronto. Not sure if they'd do anything to make the leafs a winner though, the leafs have the money in recent years that hasn't been whats holding us back.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONI hope this doesn't happen, it's never a good thing for any organization to own such a high concentration of a product, should this go through Rogers would essentially monopolize the Toronto Sports Market. Ugh... old boss/new boss.
I wish we had a Leonsis.

Edit: more importantly, this doesn't bode well for the possibility of another NHL franchise in southern Ontario. Unfortunate...
