Downside is that player X gets hurt during a non-nhl game and your team misses the playoffs as a result

But that's equally likely to happen to all teams in theory, so no one team's chances are hurt by the NHL participating in the Olympics. And even if that were to happen, there's little to no monetary loss for the NHL.

I disagree,
Someone like Crosby will always be a target and he's already had 73 concussions.

Also, the NHL isn't letting the players go, it's the owners, because of my example above.

They simply don't want their assets exposed like that without proper compensation. It doesn't matter if it's equally likely for everyone or not. I could be wrong, but I don't think playoff revenue is split evenly between all 31 teams, so you do lose money if your star is out and you miss the playoffs. There's also the risk of longer term and more serious injuries that can affect a player beyond the given season.

The IOC refuses to pay to use the assets of the NHL owners. They used to pay for the travel and insurance that the NHL was required to pay for, but they no longer will. The IIHF offered to cover the $10-20 million it would cost the NHL to participate, but they aren't getting anything on top of that to entice them to risk their players.

When the NHL said it would mix the Vegas Golden Knights expansion draft and NHL Awards into one show, it turns out they really meant it will be ONE show.

As in: Give out an award, announce a few Vegas picks. Give out another award, announce a few more Vegas picks. And so on. And so on.

I really, truly, honestly have no idea what to think about this. Weirdly we'll be seeing the faces of the game's greatest players in 2016-17 followed by names that will be sending everyone to hockeydb.com. A real mish-mash.

I know from my perspective, it will make covering the awards on June 23 pure hell. I can only imagine I'll be interviewing Auston Matthews if -- okay, when -- he is named the Calder Trophy winner as rookie of the year while hearing that Vegas has chosen, from the Toronto Maple Leafs ....

Ugh.

Good amount. 6 years, not so sure about... Decent for Philly though with their ridiculous terms they've given out in the past.

It only makes sense since the awards are in Vegas. Plus, who watches the awards show anyway? I'll be honest...I don't watch it anymore. I used to like it until it got kinda cheesy. You mix the expansion draft results in there...it makes this must see TV. I think they could've just did a special presentation after or before the awards. Mixing it in is a little weird.

Like this a lot. Happy they got this deal done because it would have cost them a lot more to sign him down the road if they did a bridge deal.

I got thrown off by the part about interviewing people, until I realized he had copied and pasted it in.

From caspers perspective, he has no reason to let go faith in a once 3rd round prospect he so proudly calles to be a stud to be in nhl. I would likely think i was god scouter after that as well
