Greatest player to ever play the game.

If he played in the 70s and 80s he would easily top 3000 points.
This is wrong, I'm sorry.
I'd ask for your opinion, but I don't really care, I'm sorry.
Are you saying if Sid got to go back with all the benefits of modern day such as training and sticks and Gretzky was stuck training like they did in the '80s? That'd be a purely hypothetical argument with nothing factual to support it, so I guess you could say it and no one could say you're actually wrong.

But from a statistical standpoint there is absolutely nothing to support the claim that Crosby would break Gretzky's records had he been born 25 years earlier.

Didn't Kalinin just clear waivers?

Probably this. Wouldn't make a bad call-up either if needed

Crosby would have had a short career like Lindros had he played in the 70's and 80's. All that whining and diving he does would have gotten him some 2 handed cracks across the back of the head.

That's child's play compared to what the goons in that era would have done to him. Of course Gretzky had guys like Samenko and McSorley watching his back throughout his career, but I have a hard time thinking anyone would have taken a run at Gretzky because of how well he was liked and respected. Would've been like signing your own death warrant whether you had to deal with those guys or not.

From what I've heard plenty of people called Gretzky a whiner too and criticised him from shying away from the physical elements of the game. It's funny what some time away from playing can do for your reputation. The same thing will happen to Crosby after he retires.

Players would also tell Gretzky before they were going to body him up towards the end of his career. I think there was just a different level of respect Gretzky had among his peers. He definitely got preferential treatment from officiating no doubt the same as Crosby. All great players do in any sport.

Imo the NHL is stupid towards rookie super stars - call the rules, I watched way too much of Sid and now McDavid/Drouin/Marner/Gudreau/Granlund getting slashed and mugged without a call; and then a very comes down the boards and a Dman shoves him with off hand and it's a hold/interference. Incredibly stupid and inconsistent.

What duby is consistently allowed to do to Sid is way outside the rules. And geniuses like Don love it. He also coached Orr into an 8 year career. LOL.

Shouldn't need McSorley to stop the slashes and actually just get the rules called. However there was tons who called Wayne and Mario babies. Yet by the time they were 35 plus guys had respect and it probably went too far away from competitiveness.

Crosby gives'er and competes and battles - he's far from a cry baby.

Sid is absolutely a baby. He has toned it down from his early years in the league, but a baby nonetheless.

Out of curiosity, what do you see he's been a baby about since his first couple of years in the league?

Michael Stone to the Flames for a 3rd. Pretty cheap if you ask me... not sure of his advanced stats but I guess he is UFA at the end of the year and ARZ wanted to ensure some return
