Yea, you guys are some worldly. Quite jealous. I'm the same as Scott. And I must say, for all you guys that live in Canada and haven't been to the East Coast yet, you need to check it out. Nothing like it and no comparisons. Will not meet a more hospitable people no matter where you go. Oh, and it has so much to offer for scenery and natural wonders..
Canada - every province except NFLD and MAN, and SAS. Lived in Calgary and like 6 towns in NS and NB.
USA - BOSTON (every year approx 4 times), NYC, CHI, CAL and specifically LA(relatives in Alhambra and Fresno),PHX (mother and father in law own house on golf course, love that city!)
Cuba - married there, Jibacoa -1 hr west of Havana in the Jungle.

I agree east coasters are increidbly hospitable. I work with all kinds of east coasters in my line of work. I feel that people from saskatchewan are a close second as far as canada goes though can't tell you how many times they have amazed me. Saskatoon sent an extra bus for just Facey and I during the world juniors when we got lost downtown lol. By far most hospitable people I have encountered were in turkey though. I was walking mid day down a highway and there wasnt a single car that drove by that didnt offer me and my friend a ride. Finally I accepted a ride back to town from this one guy and then he took us to a little cafe he owned and gave us a free lunch and tea. Thats hard to compete with lol.

Re: Where have you been?
Thats an awesome little story. I would have to agree with you about Saskatchewan natives as well. My dad is from Regina and grew up there on a farm. I also have a good buddy from there that married close friend and now lives here. Very nice guy and you would think he was a Maritimer. He is taking 5 of us next fall on a hunting trip there. Can't wait. Dude is a pretty good hockey player as well. Some of the stories he tells are priceless. He is an example of what happens when you get a girl pregnant and have to make a decision on what to do. He could have made a career out of hockey, not necessarily pro but a career none the less. He now works for Pepsi...bryshook wroteCOLONmr. bruin wroteCOLONYea, you guys are some worldly. Quite jealous. I'm the same as Scott. If any of you guys want more of a reason to visit the East Coast just watch the Dion Phaneuf piece on TSN today about where he spends his offseason. Dude is going to be a beast this year. Still don't think he will get to 65 points though.. PEI is amazing...

I'm liking Dion less and less by the day, defensively he leaves a ton to be desired, hopefully he is able to get his act together by the regulaur season, or at the very least set the tone physically with some big hits.mr. bruin wroteCOLONIf any of you guys want more of a reason to visit the East Coast just watch the Dion Phaneuf piece on TSN today about where he spends his offseason. Offensively I think he's going to get a ton of points the way our pp is clicking.
Re: Where have you been?
We must be flip flopping because I am warming up to him having a major bounce back year and being a lot more defensively responsible. The offense is a given but I think him being named captain will have a huge affect on his game in an overall positive way.

LOL, it seems so. I don't want to be overly critical over pre season games, but he has really struggled against inferior competition, and the physical play has not been at all what I thought it would be since we acquired him, though that might just be a case of me expecting a big hit every game, which isn't reasonable.mr. bruin wroteCOLONWe must be flip flopping because I am warming up to him having a major bounce back year and being a lot more defensively responsible. I'm still very high on his potential, but I'm beginning to see some of the issues that lead to Calgary dealing him.
Re: Where have you been?
Pre Season isn't known for bone jarring hits, Seemed like plenty of opportunities Dion could of dropped the hammer and didn't for risk of injury to himself in the preseason. Don't become another one of those HFboard whores who think he should be given the key to the city one night, and should be in the AHL the next.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONLOL, it seems so. One another note though, on paper we have one hell of a defense.. So why can't they play defense?? I'm looking at Ron Wilson.

Dion's two biggest hits (arguably) were in the pre-season (Hammel and Okposo), but that aside I was writing in regards to Dion Phaneuf's entire tenure with the Maple Leafs, not just pre-season. Nor did I make any outrageous claims for the future, I merely expressed my observations to date, so fuck off.inferno31 wroteCOLONPre Season isn't known for bone jarring hits, Seemed like plenty of opportunities Dion could of dropped the hammer and didn't for risk of injury to himself in the preseason. If you are going to praise the positives in pre-season and view them as meaningful, as I have done with the top line, you cannot then discard the negatives and view them as irrelevent, as you seem to be doing. The pre-season isn't the be all and end all of the NHL, but there are things we can draw from it.
As for Ron Wilson, he has put up great defensive numbers as a head coach, with multiple different defense cores, if this group is as good on paper as we think it is than they should perform...It won't be Ron Wilson that I blame, he has a track record of sucess on defence, our defence core (as a unit) does not.

Rob Zettler and Ron wilson took 160 games to realize the two hands on the stick PK doesn't work. Thats pitiful, and its up to the coach to get the most out of these players, hes putting together systems that don't work with a lot of our players. The pre-season this year and as in all years past really doesn't matter. Phaneuf since he got here has been a huge positive for the team, does he justify the salary probably not, but he more than justifies what went the other way in the deal for him. Add in his off ice talents, and its foolish to get on him for being ineffective already. You won't get on Wilson whose been here 2+ seasons, but Phaneuf's half season + pre season in which we had a much better record than prior to his arrival, and all his teammates say hes a great influence is enough on you to get on him for being ineffective?

Take the bolded part for example, where the fuck did I state the Phaneuf deal wasn't a good one? Or that Dion Phaneuf is ineffective? I've been nothing but postive since we acquired Phaneuf, and argued in favour of him scoring 65 points this season, that in mind you have to be an absolute fool or homer to ignore his defensive shortcomings, and defensive awareness.
As for RW, I've been all over his systems, and inability to adapt since we hired him. Get some sleep, and come back when you have something to argue...
Re: Where have you been?
You stated you are starting to see some of the reasons why Calgary dealt him. Of course you are, if we got him after coming off his best years we wouldn't of got him for the price we did. He has issues, and hes working them out. To be honest my post was more at the HF homers than likely at you, some of the shit they write is just ridiculous. But seeing that same thinking oh he hasn't impressed in the pre-season I find quite annoying. So what if he hasn't, he has been nothing but a positive influence since he came. Fans are a big part of what draws free agents and makes a city great to play in, I don't want leaf fans to become like those degenerate fans in Montreal. Jumping on a captain who hasn't played a regular season game is just ridiculous (not attacking you here just so you know).MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONThis post doesn't deserve a response...You taking comments out of context, and putting words into my mouth, which is a huge pet peeve of mine.inferno31 wroteCOLONRob Zettler and Ron wilson took 160 games to realize the two hands on the stick PK doesn't work. Re: Where have you been?
Well I took it as an attack, hence the agression. I'm a huge Phaneuf fan, as you know, but he is what he is a very, very good offensive defenceman who lacks defensively. Could he improve? Yes, in fact I expect it, but atm it's still an issue. His pre-season performances have merely served as a reminder of that, getting burned by lesser forwards is an issue, pre-season or not. Dion is a weak east-west skater, and gets caught up trying to pinch or make a hit, those aspects of his game still need alot of work.inferno31 wroteCOLONYou stated you are starting to see some of the reasons why Calgary dealt him. Re: Where have you been?
He likes to pinch too, and isn't the best positionally or with his stick. I don't like him being paired with Beauch to be honest as they both have positioning errors. But he can improve, takes a lot of defenseman a long time to get those aspects of the game down. I'm liking him screening the net on the powerplay though, as no one else really seemed to want that role. For so many "tough" kind of players we don't screen the goalie or drive to the net nearly hard enough.MSP4LYFE wroteCOLONWell I took it as an attack, hence the agression. Re: Where have you been?
I love Beauch as his defense partner, Beauchemin is phenomenal defensively and makes up for ALOT of Dion's errors. He also stays back which allows Dion to pinch without fear of giving up a breakaway or 2-0 against if he turns the puck over. On paper Kaberle is the better fit, but he isn't strong enough defensively to make it work.inferno31 wroteCOLONHe likes to pinch too, and isn't the best positionally or with his stick.
