Atlanta laughs all the way to the bank IMO. Malkin is the 3rd best player in the world. I don't care what anybody says about last season, he's 1 year removed from an Art Ross and Conn Smythe Trophy. That shit doesn't just disappear in one season. Malkin was still 8th in points per game this season and over 82 games would have finished with 94pts.

I don't care what intangibles Oshie or Vinny brings. Kunitz brings tons of hits and whatever else Malkin doesn't bring. FOW is the only real thing Luke gets pwned in. But for Geno, I'd take that rape. If Vinny doesn't get back to 80+ points, it's more lopsided.

Because this is going to a more offence oriented league, I feel Luke rapes this trade and will reap the benefits for the next 10 years. It's easier to find an Oshie, than a Malkin.

completely agree shep. i told luke that if he didnt pull the trigger hed be insane lol. but my thinking was this:

Malkin: 100+ points (way more assists than goals), not many peripheries.
Kunitz: 50 points, 200 hits, not much else (the catch here is that kunitz will not be able to keep this up for much longer.

Vinny: 800 fow, 100 shtoi, 80 points (imo this is conservative as vinny can be better. you talked about malkin being removed from an art ross and conn smythe, well vinnys a rocket richard winner. sure it was 5 years ago, but vinny can be a 40-40 guy for the next 5 years imo). and if he EVER returns to being what he was i.e. 95 points, thats a big win for me and i think its not that unlikely at all.
Oshie: 50 points last year. and this year him and backes are taking the lead in stl. i truly believe oshie can be a 70 point guy (even more but lets say 70). imo he is one of those dark horse candidates to be a franchise player in 2 years.

the place where luke wins this is in trade value. he could turn and flip malkin in one year for something WAY more than what he gave up. but from my standpoint, ill take that loss if it means buying vinny low, and landing oshie. finding a malkin may be extremely tough, but i think in 2years everyone is going to be talking about how finding an oshie isnt that easy either .

I ask, because the Lightning (MSL, Vinny, Stamkos) and Capitals (OV, Semin, Backstrom) seem poised to challenge that mark this season.

I don't know, Perry has never hit the ppg mark in the NHL, and Ryan would have to crush his previous career high to hit 90. It's possible, but I'm not sure I'd expect it this soon.
