Bolland with term over 4M is similar to Clarkson's contract... which in supposedly his 'peak value' year, right now, he's a 3rd line grinder. And in contract talks, you better believe you mention games played. The BBKL Insider wroteCOLONI believe the leafs lock up bolland at 4.5m per over a 5 or (max) 6 year deal.
Even though he's only played 15 games for the blue and white he was one of our best players and the leafs were 11-2-2 with him in the lineup. He's proving that he's one of the best 2 way C's in the league, and those guys dont come cheap.
You also can't blame this injury on him being 'injury prone' -
worst case, sign him to a 1 year x 4 - 5 mil deal and let him prove himself. I just can't see the leafs letting bolland go, we've needed C's for years and we finally have 4 or 5 good ones under contract.
If we hand out these deals we'll be hooped with JvR, Bernier, Kadri, etc come up - effectively choosing our role players over our game-breakers.

Bolland is a 2nd line player and was burried in Chicago. On an open market (UFA) he'll get 5mil, so if the leafs can sign him for anything less they're doing good IMO.Nick wroteCOLONBolland with term over 4M is similar to Clarkson's contract... which in supposedly his 'peak value' year, right now, he's a 3rd line grinder. I still believe they'll settle on a 5 year deal that ranges in the 22-23mil range.

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
See I'm all for the "Bolland is a great piece" talk. But here is the reality:
The Leafs have a core of Kessel, JVR, Bozak, Kadri, Lupul, Phaneuf, Rielly, Bernier. You can literally put a plethora of replacement players around those guys and have a similar team IMO.
Raymond, Bolland, Franson are ALL replaceable. Clarkson is not etched in stone on this team either.
To give Bolland 5M over 5-6 Years is absolutely ridiculous. There needs to be an internal cap. No C should be getting more than Bozak. If Bolland wants more, let him fuckin walk. We will replace him. And IMO Clarkson is gone in the next year if he doesn't step it up.
The one thing I strongly believe is the power of replacement players. Dropping players from your bottom 6 is not difficult to replace IMO. And that is a bargaining chip that is more valuable than a player saying that he is getting more money elsewhere.
Bolland and Raymond can go to Florida for more money. But our core is strong enough and has bright future and that's the program Nonis will be selling to get players to take a discount.
If I had to wager, I'd say Bolland gets 4M for 4-5 years max. Otherwise, he will not be a Leaf next season.

You don't get paid for a (relative to the rest of your career) hot start to a season, especially not if you miss the next 50 games. He managed 6 points in last year's playoffs through 18 games, and just 14 points on the season (35 games) . That's what he does on a cup team. That is not a 4.5M player (with term).

Re: NHL Transactions, Injuries & Rumours
dont get me wrong, i think bolland is out to lunch wanting 40mil over 7 years. He isn't worth that type of contract.
I do however believe he'll get 4+ mil over a 5 year deal.
That said, this setback could really change things, who knows
