Week 19 Talk
Re: Week 19 Talk
Flame away, but I think Kane is the #1 winger in all of BBKL when salary and production across multiple cats is taken into account.
Scores, hits, PKs, PIMs, SOG all for only 5.25 locked in for 4 more seasons and only 22. Ovechkin is better right now, but is he 4M better and for how long? If I had Kane I don't think there would be a single winger I'd swap 1 for 1.

If the Sharks could remember how powerful their offense can be, that'd be great ...

Wait, you mean to tell me there was a time in the last year that Paul Ranger was a sought after and valued player?SuperMario wroteCOLONYes the East is tougher but that CLB team should be making it at least in the 8th seed. The reason it hasn't is lack of adjustments. Look at every top team in the league. It changes every year in some way to adjust for the change in player stats and values. It's how you maintain performance. And "standing pat" is the reason CLB has fallen out.
Same thing happened with Thom after he took over Kareem's team. But he has finally put his mark on that team. It was Kareem's team for a while there which was good 2 years ago but without adjustments, it wasn't able to remain as good.
I think the BIGGEST thing that long-time BBKLers "get" is that there are certain performance indicators that show how a player will do in the future. They "get" which players will improve and which players will fall off for the most part. It's part of the learning process here and a lot of it is trial and error and seeing what works and what doesn't.
The biggest mistake I see GMs making is not selling players at the right time. This is what prevents a team from adjusting (Not picking on particular GMs here but look at the players below).
Tlusty - Thom
Ranger - Lee
Penner - Dave
Conacher - Peter
Those are just some examples off the top of my head. The reason they come to mind is because I know there was a time in this league when a LOT of GMs wanted those players and were willing to severely overpay for them. Holding them through their peak has only hurt those teams as certain players have their peak value for only one season due to factors like cap/a hot season/stretch.
Anyways, /rant.

Believe it or not he was. GP is a huge factor in our weekly match-ups and his BBKL #s were much better than his play IRL. That ship has sailed now though hahabrockbirds wroteCOLONWait, you mean to tell me there was a time in the last year that Paul Ranger was a sought after and valued player?SuperMario wroteCOLONYes the East is tougher but that CLB team should be making it at least in the 8th seed. Sure it has. Expecting your offers to pick up once again when he gets back into the lineup. I was getting almost hourly offers from you on him.

Interesting. Paul Ranger and Alex Sulzer, two places I probably wouldn't have gone to start looking for fantasy depth lol.SuperMario wroteCOLONBelieve it or not he was. Yeah, in BBKL actual NHL player's value >>>> said player's value in any other league. 6/7 d-men, enforcers, injury call-ups all have value in this league though they go undrafted/untouched in 99.999% of all other leagues.brockbirds wroteCOLONInteresting. Re: Week 19 Talk
If it gets you 30 GPs on the season or provides you with injury depth, it matters. It's too bad you're here after the trade deadline. Look through past deals to get an idea of valuation on certain players you wouldn't see elsewhere.brockbirds wroteCOLONAnd AHLer by the looks of it

yup, player depth is important, it can make or break a week, playoff match, or season.

Re: Week 19 Talk
depth conversation often feels confused to me
It seems some GMs talk of a deep roster, in having 12 good forwards and 6 good d, and others talk of having roster depth, in having 3 extras on bench and 7 waiver exempt players ready to fill in for a low gp week or injuries.
I'm not questioning the worth of each, but they often play off against each other in terms of where you spend your 'value' as well as your cap.

me: What do you want for Kane?dave1959 wroteCOLONbma wroteCOLONMy personal trade conversations with Dave have been frustrating. That is all I can say.
why, because I won't just GIVE you Kane??
you: lots
me: take a look at my team and let me know what you like (link posted)
you: you're the one that wants him.
me: i appreciate the reply..but i asked you to take a look at my team to see what you like. This way I have a better idea of what it would take for me to get Kane. Not sure if there's some misunderstanding. (link posted again)
you: no reply
Re: Week 19 Talk
Im usually the same. If i get an inquiry about a player, the person inquiring should do the work of providing a starting point on what they will pay. If that player is not for sale, it is worth the time of both parties to state that up front.
Re: Week 19 Talk
Yeah, if I get an inquiry like that with no effort of an offer.. I reply with an absurd overpayment coming back my way.CAM wroteCOLONIm usually the same.
