Week 19 Talk
Deadline over: team # review
Well GMs, the trade deadline has come and gone, we're into the stretch drive to determine playoff spots and seating.
Top of the conferences have not changed for some time, in all likelihood Mike will be the 2013-2014 BBKL President's trophy winner, with a tidy 54 point lead on 2nd place ( LAK and BOS tied), repeated in the season records with Toronto having only suffered 1 loss (16-1-1), LAK (15-2-1), BOS TBL and STL each with 13 wins. Detroit and Vancouver holding down the 30th (154pts) and 29th (168pts) spots respectively, Vancouver having only managed a single win all season.
------------Team #
Through a combination of good GMings, excellent depth, and of course luck, the LAK have accumulated 1070 total GP, MIN and TOR @ 2nd & 3rd in the 1020's. Getting dangerously close to the min requirements, VAN (754) and DAL (793) likely for the exactly opposite reasons -> Bad GMing, no depth, plus a dose of bad luck.
------Skater Scoring #
The Boston filled bruins continue to own the largest + in the BBKL, @ +93, a gap of almost 30 to the Penguins (+68), Luke's Jets still hold down the biggest negative @ -85.
Game Winning Goals is owned by MIN (34) closely followed by TBL (33) and LAK (31), Dallas has just 9.
The Toronto Maple Leafs and Kings from Los Angeles are the only team with over 200 goals, at 236 and 203, EDM(97), CBJ (88), DA (86)L & DET (62) are the only teams under 100, making this a fairly tight category for the other 24 teams (102-182).
The Los Angeles Kings have also taken over the top spot in assists (*I know*) with 330, Nashville Predators the only other team above 300 with 328. DET with the fewest assists, less than half of the league median (246.5).
First in assists, 2nd in goals, to no-one's surprise the LAK are the highest point scoring team in the BBKL, with 533, TOR @ 523 and NSH @491 the closest competitors.
Tied for the special team point lead is LAK & NSH @ 166, the batltle at the top of the STPTS category is tight, just 46pts from 1st to 10th, however the fall-off is quick, with the bottom 12 teams having less than 100, DET & DAL under 50.
I'm beginning to feel like the sort function doesn't do anything, TOR with the most shots on goal @ 2063 and no one else is over 2000, just DET is under 1000 @ 834.
What did I start the last sentence with? TOR with the most _____ (Face offs won) with 2689 so far on the year, closely contested by MIN and TBL (2353 and 2342), Dallas with just 643 on the year.
Hang on, got the sort function working again, San Jose sharks with the most Blocked Shots (Bull-Sh*t, B-Shook, w/e) with 966, my lightning at 913 followed closely by those Kings @ 912. Pete's stars avoid the puck at all cost, with just 372 on the year.
Well that was not long-lived, leading the league in Hits is Mike with 1642, personally I think his scrawny frame would fail, followed by Dave in the Blue Jacket (1488) and Kyle's new york G's (1444). Although well documented, Mik's soccer players are yet to understand 'full contact hockey' with just 810 on the year.
The leafs also lead in PIMS with 797, followed by the Lightning (715), interestingly Mik's Preds are no longer the 'cleanest' team, instead the rookie filled Hawks are too scared of getting benched to risk taking a penalty (408 for NSH, 406 CHI).
SHTOI is led by Steve's Kings as the only group north of two thousand minutes short-handed, Pete's stars have less than 1/4 that amount (423).
---------- Goalie #
Dave & Kyle lead the way in Goalie wins, DAL & *repeat* with the lowest GAA (2.01 and 2.10), (37 & 36), BOS & MTL each benefiting from their NHL twins with the top SV% (.927, & .923)Interestingly I'd like to point out that top 2 teams are unique from W, GAA and SV%, although Toronto & CBJ do reappear atop the Shutout count ( PIT and WSH still with zero).
I guess that is summed up with:
Toronto with the best record vs league, 5681-2018-653, LAK, TBL & MIN holding him to the fewest wins (153, 159, 159). Matching that is his .759 category win%.
--------------- the Playoff picture as of Trade Deadline -----------------------
TOR vs OTT
PIT vs MTL
BOS vs TBL
NYI vs NYR
Really only the first seat gets you an 'easy' first round, and the cost of entry in the east to face the Monster Toronto team, is a steep 294 points, currently owned by Billy with a 7-9-2 record, although a 4some behind is making it for an interesting finish, within 22points are CLB and some hot teams with 9 wins who hope to finish the year strong (FLA/NJD/WSH).
-----------------
LAK vs CHI
STL vs NSH
MIN vs COL
SJS vs PHX
Due to a very weak Pacific, the division 3rd spot is anything but hotly contested, currently requiring just 267pts from a 6-12 record to have access to the playoffs, although whether its PHX who currently has the seat, ANA or WPG it'll likely be a short run against the very strong SJS.
The 8th seat in the West is also being handed out for food-stamps, requiring just 268pts; projecting as a final race between CHI, PHX, ANA, and WPG. Any success from the 8th seat would parallel the tale of David versus Goliath; the chances of success are even smaller than the pebble wheeling hero.

Excellent write up nick
To be honest i actually want nothing to do with anton's hawks. Id rather play Shep in round 1.

Re: Week 19 Talk
Mik a trouble team for anyone, could easily win 8-7-1 against any of the top teams, elite scoring + hot goalies.

I might've mentioned this somewhere else but the GP under team totals does include GGP with skater GP. You can get the true total of skater GP for each team under each team --> Fantasy; Standard; Interval; YTD.

Re: Week 19 Talk
Mike downgraded Vanek to Nino at the deadline, that will hurt his scoring. But you are still correct, he could surprise a contender. He did knock-me-out in round 1 of last year.Nick wroteCOLONMik a trouble team for anyone, could easily win 8-7-1 against any of the top teams, elite scoring + hot goalies.
Re: Week 19 Talk
wait, am i in the playoffs? seriously?
Re: Week 19 Talk
And think, Mik has had players like Josi, Nyquist and Tatar out of his lineup for quite a while.

Yea it's crazy this year. Some really interesting storylines.anton wroteCOLONwait, am i in the playoffs? seriously?
-You're likely going to finish 8th.
-Bcool's CLB team that has remained in tact isn't even going to make the playoffs in the east either.
-WSH will miss the playoffs and NYR/NYI will make it
-OTT may sneak in as a surprise 8th seed in the East
-PHX is likely going to make it due to the new playoff format
Re: Week 19 Talk
I think PHX is 6th because of the new format, they would be 8th and CHI 7th if 'new' format is ignored. ANA in striking distance of either.SuperMario wroteCOLON Yea it's crazy this year. Some really interesting storylines.

CBJ not making it seems crazy, shows how much getting hot in h2h can make a difference
Re: Week 19 Talk
I really like the Kyle's new york G's.
thanks for the write up as well. This is always interesting to read!

Re: Week 19 Talk
despite 5 wins in the last 6, the stats Nick posted shows my team has not been doing too well recently. And that was only partially due to roster/cap issues and injuries.
Hopefully tonight was the start of better things to come, with Diaz contributing as soon as traded away from the Habs and the Rangers giving a needed kick in the ass to Kyle's Varlamov.
Tight matchup now.

i 100% disagree with this statement.Nick wroteCOLON CBJ not making it seems crazy, shows how much getting hot in h2h can make a difference
Building a H2H team that consistantly hits 6-8 cats a night isn't about getting hot or going cold - it's about staying consistant, which they do. The issue with the blue jackets this year is the lack of trades and a really banged-up roster. Nothing was done to improve an injured roster, and thus the results speak for themself.
Re: Week 19 Talk
Bitter sweet for me last night....Halak with the .871 sv% and 4 GA
but my Sens win 5-4 in the shoot out.
(I'll take the Sens win anyday )
