Giroux is like Corey Perry. One super elite season and now is suddenly a god.

Giroux is easily below the Top 4 and I avoided him in all drafts this year because his wrist is going to doom him.

yah man exactly my thoughts as well. Im glad im not the only one who thinks this ! (unless you are trolling me, lol)

wrist injuries are not something to take lightly for a hockey player. Just look what happenedto patty kane with his wrist injury, kid fell off the face of the earth (relatively speaking...) with regards to his offense. Same thing happened to grabo IIRC as well.

wish i could chill and talk more hockey...alas its work time :(

Vinny's first big drop happened with a wrist injury as well - but those are the bad cases. Lots of other example recovered -> Benn, Iggy, Kesler, Bergeron, Weiss, Semin, Kane (slowed a year for sure), and I'm sure there are a ton more.

Claude still looks deadly in game - when and if the Flyers get going, he will be the catalyst and offensive leader. But guys... it's insanely early...Kopitar, E.Staal, Semin, Spezza -> all haven't hit stride yet.

Bingo. I am never one to rush judgement with such a small sample.

Fluke might be a post-hoc view, but was Cheechoo's rocket a fluke? or did he falters afterwards (primarily off the ice?) I saw a player who had amazing chemistry with the best play maker in the game... well earned goals, but perhaps he didn't have the super-star approach to the game, just to his off-ice activities :P just in line with a rock-star.

Hartnell has some unreal chemistry with Giroux - they were deadly and the team was good as well. Now the team lacks chemistry, flow, momentum and even a system that I can see. They are matched up against shutdown lines, and both coming off of injuries. Schenn is a nice compliment to the two of them, and I believe will be a very productive line eventually.

If in regards to G's 90+pt year, his pedigree is well tested. all the junior awards one would expect, and an insane playoff talent... comfortably over ppg in the playoffs.

His past 'bad' year was point-per-game...

The trio formed one hell of a line. Jagr can play with anyone though, as long as they make up for his foot-speed.

This. Hartnell was a passenger. I like how one of the greatest players ever to play the game ends up on Giroux' line and that's when he has his biggest season and has not been the same since. Jagr was money that year.

Jagr has 54pts, Hartnell 67 and Giroux 93. No one was a passenger, but having a line with chemistry obviously helps them all.

Jagr was no where near the best player on the line, or the reason it worked - lots of rumour of his impact off of the ice, but that's hearsay. Paying a little too much credit to JJ there... he was no where near his old form, and that line did fine w/o him (both he and scottie missed time iirc).

In the playoffs Giroux posted 17pts (in 10) to Scottie & Jagr's 8 (in 11).

I think you misunderstood me. I think Jagr being on that line made all the difference. Doesn't mean he put up the best stats or anything. I think he created space for Hartnell though. Space he doesn't get anymore. Giroux also got more space because of Jagr which is why he was able to put up numbers much better than he has since. Obviously, Giroux was the best player on that line. But is he in the Stamkos/Sidney territory he was once thought to be? Not so sure.

1 year removed from 17pts in 10 playoff games, including out playing Crosby & Gino by a wide margin in that series. I know this is a what-have you done for me lately, media/league/industry -> but 1 year removed from that, PPG on a team with negative mojo and no elite teammate that co-inflates #. No MSL (or Vinny), no Malkin, Neal, Letang. He's got Hartnell who is similar to his Kunitz. But without a 2nd line that requires attention, a puck moving dman who is making the first part of the plays or an elite linemate, it's basically unheard of to be top 5 in scoring.

But not being top 5 in scoring, is different from being a top player in the world. IMO at least.

He was a total monster in those 4 flyer wins and only active for 1 loss iirc.

I disagree with the statement that he outplayed them by a wide margin. I think the flyers' supporting cast was better than the penguins' supporting cast that series. Not to mention Fleury shitting the bed.

To say Giroux is the same breath was Crosby and Malkin is just wrong right now imo, however during that playoff run he was just as good or even better. He is defiantly missing Jagr on his line, ive watched a lot of this year im sure he will end up between 70 - 80 points. Just my thoughts
