i actually think you'll see him moved.

I can see a deal of Jake for Etem.

however, didn't we get Jake from the ducks?

yea he hasn't been good.

he's in a tough spot - randy wants him to reign it in (and rightfully so) but when gardiner plays tentatively he's far less effective. he needs to be on a team with a coach who will let him loose.

He has virtually no slack from Randy, but I believe moving him would be a big mistake on our end.

depends

if they think Rielly can come in to fill the void then it may not be, we may be able to upgrade a forward position in the process.

Say, if we brought in an (etem maybe) he'd be a lot better than calling up this Smith fella we're going to be using on the 3rd line.

Making roster changes due to short-term injuries is silly though.

Our Forwards are good. Even with Jake on the back-end we're having issues.

Gunner is not performing
Fraser is hurt
Ranger is scary
Gardiner isn't consistently performing
We've seen one game from Reilly and he was awful for 1/2 of it.
Franson is hardly a problem, was a strength in the first 2 games, but just junk in game 3 - cannot have much more of that.

Gunnars looked like his normal self minus maybe one or two hiccups. That said every dman on our team has had a slip or two or ten in some cases...

No issues with his play here.

Why do people keep coming up with rumours that we're moving our D? We need to add there not subtract! Unless we get a D back, I don't see how we move one, unless it's Liles of course.

I think Dion has been covering for Gunner way way too often, bad passes, soft plays and slower than normal skating. Not the fireman we've come to expect.

i would think if we move a D he'd be recalled

esp if it was Gardiner.

and these rumours are coming from after 40mins (sat night) did you not see them? they speculated Gardiner would be/could be traded and thought the ducks offered one of Etem/DSP or both.

I put no emphasis on rumours like this because it makes no sense for the team in question. Why would we move Gardiner for Etem? Etem wouldn't even get a spot in our Top 9 when we are healthy. It makes no sense. Taking rumours with a grain of salt is always important.

Also our biggest hole is on D. Fraser going down has told us that we do not have enough d-men who are responsible in our own end. The more practical thing would be to land such a player, without losing Gardiner.

Furthermore, why are we assuming Rielly is replacing Gardiner? Do we as a fan base actually want that? Rielly needs to develop parts of his game and develop good habits, not be here on the 3rd pairing and get completely destroyed in our own zone. He should definitely be sent down after the 9 game limit.

The Rielly we need, is much like the Gardiner we need. An all-around skating dman. We have the physical bodies in Phaneuf, Franson and Fraser, but they should be complimented by guys that cover more ice, Gunner is efficient and I expect he'll find form again next to Dion, I personally have liked some signs between Franson and Gardiner... for this season that means there is no spot for Rielly, as like Shiv i think another year of development is a good thing. Fraser & Ranger/Percy would work fine for us.

The next step for our team is making our top pairing absolutely formidable. If Reilly can become that ideal partner for Dion we'd be a much hard team to play.

Leaf nation needs to calm down (the ones like Steve who aren't calm anyways).

We've played 3 games, in all of which our team has not played its best, yet we have still won. This is a work in progress and all problems can't be solved overnight.

Things we need to do:

Get a shutdown d-man
Move Liles
Add some depth

None of those things require us to move a player of Jake Gardiner's ilk. And this isn't BBKL where if a player suddenly is playing (Rielly), you move one of your other guys (Gardiner) to make room for him lol.

meh,

i'm not upset and i hope we dont move Jake. That said moving Liles is next to impossible with the cap being down. If there is a Gardiner trade out there that makes sense i'm sure Nonis will explore it (no different than any othe player on the leaf roster) and thirdly these are rumours, you boys have your panties in a bunch.

im not sure i'll ever understand this argument. how does sending him back to junior when he is good enough to play in the NHL good for his "development".

he's going to be playing against NHLers his entire career, not 17 year old kids. he's not going to develop the ability to defend against NHLers by playing against teenagers. he's going to develop into an NHLer by practicing and playing with and against other NHLers.

he had a rocky half (as did the whole team) in his 1st NHL game ever...then he went on to play excellently for 1.5 periods. let him prove himself at this level.

If Nonis gets Corey Perry for Gardiner, I'll be okay with it haha.

This is the same argument that can be made for almost any elite prospect who gets sent back. Some of the very best have been sent back. Huberdeau is one off the top of my head.

Sending players back, especially d-men, is never a bad thing. The most we lose is 1 year of Rielly on that roster. But in that time, he can put on muscle and focus on areas of his game to improve. it is EXTREMELY rare for a d-man to breakout at Rielly's age AND keep it up for his career without regressing. Most of the time, if a d-man breaks out, there is a regression/a plateau reached. Which is why most of the stud d-men you see come about around 23-24.

they get sent back because they don't make the team. rielly made the team. he's played 1 game at the NHL level and looked excellent for half of it. let's give him an opportunity to prove himself in the NHL before arbitrarily sending him back to a junior league for his "development"
