Re: HAWKS/HABS
what was i thinking getting a 42 pt (in 71 games) d-man with a 1.8 mill cap hit for the worst of my 10 NHL wingers!

Foster is good, no doubt....but he was the man last year in TB on a good offensive team.
I can't see him putting up 40+ points again.
Kunitz on the other hand, can be a serious H2H beast esp if he's playing with Crosby all year.
Re: HAWKS/HABS
kunitz = 50 pts and 180 hits. 3.75 cap hit, limited pp time.
foster = 40 pts and 80 blocked shots. 1.8 cap hit, ample pp time.
like i said, i had wingers to burn...kunitz being by far the most expendable.
even if neal signs for 5 and mueller for 3 (both of which wont happen) i now have over 5 mill to shop with.

Re: HAWKS/HABS
Foster is a very nice pickup for the Hawks to give him offense as a reduced price. As Anton said, he had wingers to move so he did a nice job in flipping one of his expendable pieces for a nice value guy in Foster. It's a solid trade for both sides.
Re: HAWKS/HABS
I would've went with the other Dman that was being offered.. you know who I'm talking about Anton!

Re: HAWKS/HABS
All of your active Dman are better than Foster
so i'm quite interested in who it would have been.

Re: HAWKS/HABS
Vlasic >>> Foster
however, he also makes twice as much.
So im sure that played a factor

Re: HAWKS/HABS
vlasic's diminished role in SJ this year scared me a bit.
with the rise of Demers, im not sure that changes this season either.

if anything, the retirement of blake increases the value of vlassic a LOT. demers' rise doesnt change anything.

Re: HAWKS/HABS
I'm with shiv there.
However, like i said earlier, Fosters cap hit is pretty nice compared to The pickle.

how can blake's retirement increase vlasic's value "A LOT" but the rise of demers not change anything?SuperMario wroteCOLONif anything, the retirement of blake increases the value of vlassic a LOT. demers' rise doesnt change anything.
blake is only 1 person. him retiring opens up 1 spot on the pp next to boyle.
demers outpointed vlasic in 15 less games last season.
vlasic 16 pts in 64 games.
demers 21 pts in 51 games.
vlasic pp per game: 1:43
demers pp per game: 2:22
demers was already getting more points and pp time vlasic last season.
vlasic may get some of blake's shtoi mins, but demers will get his pp time and they will likely split the ES time.
my d is loaded with shtoi guys (gorges, wis, tyutin, hjalmarsson), i needed straight offence. i got it.
foster > vlasic offensively.
there also seems to be this weird perception that i could have just substituted vlasic into this deal and neel would have taken it. in reality, neel didn't want to do kunitz straight up for vlasic and wanted me to add a piece.
in conclusion: i got the better (imo) player for a better deal and a cheaper price.
