R.O.Y. thoughts
R.O.Y. thoughts
So aside from the blue-chip prospects set to enter the league (guys like Hall,Seguin, Eberle, MSP, Kadri, Beach, GEOFFRION , Fowler, Subban, Carlsson, Kindl, B.Schenn,Glennie etc.), who do you guys think *could* potentially be in the running for rookie of the year?
Some ideas thinking around the league:
MATTHEW CALVERT
Marcel Mueller
Casey Wellman
Sergi Shirokov
Jerry D'amigo
AKIM ALIU
Patrice Cormier
Drew Shore
Stu Bickel
KIRILL PETROV
Tyler Ennis
Jordan Caron
YURY ALEXANDROV
STEFAN ELLIOTT
KEVIN SHATTENKIRK
COLBY COHEN
Luke Adam
Adam Henrqiue
Alex Urbom
MATS ZUCCARELLO AASEN
Dana Tyrell
Carter Ashton
James Wright
Jon Blum
Cody Almond
Colton Gillies
Jarod Palmer
Tyler Cuma
Nate Prosser
Logan Pyett
Tomas Tatar
MATTIAS RITOLA
Just a few ideas.
From my own viewing at the end of last year, and what I've been able to catch of the training camps, if Wellman makes the team he's one of my dark horses. Alex Urbom for the Devils is also intriguing in that his game appears to be NHL ready... I'm not sure if he counts as a 'blue-chipper' or not, but Robak could make a serious impact for florida.
if Dylan MacIlrath makes the NHL and is even close to ROY, Sather deserves GM of the year for having the balls to pick him over Fowler & Gormley. It also woudn't shock me to MZA really had a good first season, but same thing the other way... if he cannot transition to the smaller rink and tighter checking....

Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
I like Shattenkirk a lot.. I feel with that young, fast, exciting Colorado team he has a really good shot with the minutes he'll likely see.. same with Jamie McBain.

Hard to make a prediction this early, would like to get a few pre-season games in but James Wright won't be winning it as he already has 48 games under his belt.

Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
homer in me says eberle or ennis.. but it's always someone surprising that comes out each year.

Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
I can see a guy like Wellman sneaking in to take the award.
Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
id say eberle is an "underdog" to win it behind guys like hall, subban, carlson.hong57 wroteCOLONhomer in me says eberle or ennis.. but it's always someone surprising that comes out each year.
Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
My homer vote is for Simon Danis-Pepin. Behemoth D prospect of the Hawks.
Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
I forgot about Carlson. Definitely a good chance at it!
Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
I dont see carlson winning it. The league hates giving defencemen awards that fowards are allowed to win it seems. If a defencmen wins it I would say it has to be subban jusk because of the exciting factor.
my two picks
Logan Couture
Jordan Schroeder. I believe jord makes this team not cody because of his great wing play. I see him on a line with kesler and raymond.

Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
I also think Zack Boychuk could have a big year
so does CBS
so does CBS
Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
holy fak. Scott is the only one of you guys who can name a non-blue-chipper?
Its easy to to pick w/e top end prospect you have (Hong, Steve, Bryan, etc). But perhaps name one of your non-blue-chip guys who could really have an explosive first year...LOL

Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
I dont know, I dont think jordan Schoeder was a cop out pick. The kid has never played a game in the NHL and is the second best prospect on his team. He is a far cry away from a garuntee to make this years roster. I felt that was a fairly decent pick. I dont see anyone else picking him.
Here is another one as well, Evgeni Gratchev. With him switching to the wing and him having a very strong chance of coming up this year to play with Artem Anisimov, I think he could blow up. He and Anisimov could make that team very exciting to watch.

Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
May be hometown biased but I like the way Tyler Ennis showed up and if he has a chance at a full season I like his chances to be in the running.
Re: R.O.Y. thoughts
Kadri is my pick .... that is if he makes the team
