Gilbert being a UFA is an issue for me. We can explore this once both Franson and Gilbert sign if you like though I think the gap is greater than a 2015 1st.shooker wroteCOLONTom Gilbert + SJS 1st 2015

Re: Cody Franson Contract Block
I personally don't see the gap being bigger. Both will sign imo, gilbert will just be at least 1.5M cheaper. Once gilbert signs for around 1.5M chances are I am not going to want to move him. This offer is on the table until one of them signs, after that I am guessing myself or both of us will have to re evaluate.SuperMario wroteCOLONGilbert being a UFA is an issue for me. Yea I like Franson more than that buddy. Personally I think Franson will sign for 2.5 and Nonis will find a way to keep him and Kadri in the room that we have.shooker wroteCOLONI personally don't see the gap being bigger. He better get kadri soon, he is becoming a distraction. The kid (kadri) really needs to stop complaining to the media, he isn't helping his case at all.SuperMario wroteCOLON Yea I like Franson more than that buddy. I feel like the Leafs will be able to come to terms alot easier with Franson than they will with Kadri. I think its gonn aget ugly before Kadri signs...

Re: Cody Franson Contract Block
Probably because Nonis is low-balling him the same way the Habs did Subban. That got ugly for a reason, and it's entirely possible ours will as well.
Kadri has earned more than a 2.85M contract, in large part because of what he's going to do.
Subban is currently getting ripped off by the habs, and is going to take them to bank on the next deal.
If I were the leafs, I'd want to sign Kadri with term on a 4-5M deal.

Re: Cody Franson Contract Block
Uggh I hate Subban's personality, that whole situation really weighed on the habs. I remember when it was over they interviewed Gorges and he was like, "I don't want to discuss his contract, I am glad this is over so maybe we can start talking hockey" lol. Subban didn't go to the media and complain about negotiations though. Seriously, Kadri needs to stop that haha.

ference for franson
Re: Cody Franson Contract Block
Go to the Media/Media to go player ?
Little difference in the Kadri is skating/training in TO, whereas Subban was not training/skating in MTL.
His first 5 interviews he said all the things we want him to say, than in the last 2 he admitted not having a contract is weighing on him -> that's just being honest. I know every time I'm up for a contract talk it weighs on my mind.

Re: Cody Franson Contract Block
It's well known that Franson is asking for 4+. Voynov and Josi are the contracts he's using as comparables.
Barring a Liles trade, he's played his last game as a Leaf.

I think Voyonov is awesome. Josi is good too, both are a lot better then Franson,

Both are better, yes
That said, that mirtle guy is reporting kadri wants 6x6 but will agree to 5mil over 6.
Frason is asking for 4 over 6 years.
This is just from twitter tho

Re: Cody Franson Contract Block
I think he's a good 5th dman. Hate him at too many regular strength minutes. 4M isn't what you pay a 3rd pairing dman.
I think Voyonov is fucking awesome, really under-rated when I watch him play. Josi has skills the preds are hiding, he'll get more chance to show them this year. Franson is bigger and has a pretty-neat half clapper than he uses well, but his own-zone play is horrendous IMO. Would like to keep him @ 2-3.1M

his play in the defensive end was great this year, he used his big frame well, hit guys, kept the puck away from the net, protected the goalie, and cleared the zone.
Franson at 26 is a very good 2nd pairing dman, with top pairing upside....i get really confused about what you dont see in him?
note - you will see me calling franson a bottom pairing dman in a trade thread - but that's only to troll shiv. I really like Franson, he's actually one of my fav leafs and he's so important to us he needs to be locked up.
