saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle

Kaberle remains a Leaf for the time being.
Fuck you Burke.

Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
This makes your defensive unit elite. Kaberle is a fantastic player, I hardly count this as a loss for toronto. Yes your offense doesnt get a much needed boost but your team is still heading in a great direction.
Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
By spending 25 million on a mediocre defense? If he doesn't address the forward situation, the Leafs will be destined for season long futility once more.bryshook wroteCOLONThis makes your defensive unit elite. Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
We won't start the season with all these defenceman. The question is.. now what?

I have no clue how you call that group mediocre.Radiohead wroteCOLON By spending 25 million on a mediocre defense? If he doesn't address the forward situation, the Leafs will be destined for season long futility once more.
#1 all around dman in dion phaneuf
elite puck mover in thomas kaberle
elite defensive shut-down dman in Komi
Young hard to play against dman in luke schenn
Young Positionally elite dman in Gunnerson
Solid 2nd unti dman in beaucheim
and a #6 who moves the puck well in Lebda
oh and finger...
those top 3 pieces are all very very good.
I'm really happy that we didn't give him away. Time to sign him to a reasonable extension with a complete NTC and end this entire discussion. If Luke can get us Ryan in some magical world, do that.
Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
This is alright, maybe we will see a disgruntled Kaberle who lost a step and likes to give the puck over more and has lost his offensive flair? A guy can hope can't he....
Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
I am guessing what we have will be another Sundin scenario come trade deadline. He wont waive his NTC and will walk away after the season just for spite. With Wilson's offensive system and 8 D-men, Leafs could be bottom 3 in the east again. I really wanted to see Kaberle on another team as I think he would be dynamic. Sometimes players just need changes in there careers. Just like Horton. He is going to be a changed man this season, can't wait.

Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
Burke's first real mistake as the GM of the Leafs has been letting the power of control fall back into Kaberle's hands.
Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
The Leafs are fucked. I expect another bottom 5 finish if we go into the season with the team as is.

Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
Do you guys still see Kaberle starting the year as a Leaf? Even though his NTC kicked in I think Burke will find a team that Kaberle will be willing to go to. I do not think the market supports what Burke thinks Kaberle is worth. But i do think he almost has to be moved now to get something out of him. They need that extra punch up front or they will be a bottom 6 team like shep said. One more offensive gun could make a huge difference on this team imo.
Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
Honestly Tomas is a natural partner for Phaneuf. I'd like to see him sign some nice big long extension. 48M over 10 years, don't make it SILLY front loaded, but lets get that cap down for a guy that has indicated many many times he wants to stay in the blue & white.
Having Phaneuf - Kaberle be the #1 pairing would never ever be the source of our troubles, and wow would it be nice to see Dion put up McCabe style PowerPlay #'s getting feeds from Kabs.... just without some of the other stuff McCabe would do...LOL

Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
Kaberle is elite...with the additions you have made over the last season, this offseason and the prospects coming up (mainly kadri) I dont see a bottom 5 finish as a possibility. I put you guys as a bubble team, somewhere between 7th-11th in the east.

Re: saw it somewhere else, lets hear it, Kaberle
Kaberle will resign, he wants to stay here and has said as much on numerous occasions, that and I doubt Burke is dumb enough to retain an asset he knew he couldn't resign. That being said, it will have to be to a lucrative contract with a full NMC which is not what this team needs...
At this point I don't think we have any other choice but to deal Luke Schenn. The kid is trapped behind at least 4 (Phaneuf, Kaberle, Gunnarsson, Komisarek) and probably five defenceman (Beauchemin) in the short term. Which will only lower his value, assuming his value is still high enough to garner a good young forward I think the Leafs need to make that trade. By retaining Kaberle, and trading away next seasons first round pick they have severely limited their options to improve the offense.
