Beautiful return, but Carlson will put Kareem closer to that championship.

you could someone make this sound good for Kareem.
FUCK i know it helps him HUGE... hence why i was in full bidding war mode and stuff got out of hand... i tried the 'final offer' move and then I was out.
Re: This Is What Happens When You Put PHI & WSH In the Same
I agree this really helps him, got him under the cap for fuck sakes. I couldnt help it tho, was the right thing for me and best payoff. I dont think anyone else would have paid this.facey wroteCOLONFUCK i know it helps him HUGE... hence why i was in full bidding war mode and stuff got out of hand... i tried the 'final offer' move and then I was out.

great returb bry! i can see why both nick and kareem didnt want to let the other get carlson. but the genius of this trade becomes even more apparent when you check what bry gave up for carlson:
To Buffalo:
Daniel Briere
Eric Wellwood
To Colorado:
John Carlson
2010 3rd Rounder (BUF)

Re: This Is What Happens When You Put PHI & WSH In the Same
this is a bit ridiculous to me.
WSH would likely be thrilled if carlson ever puts up carle's numbers consistently...and carle is still only 26 years old...
then you add probably the cheapest 30 goal scorer in the nhl...AND a 1st rounder...

Re: This Is What Happens When You Put PHI & WSH In the Same
Carle put me over the cap, and Moulson is set to go to arbitration, I definately overpaid, but I feel I got head and shoulders the best player. I also think your naive if you believe Carlson will be lucky to put up Carle's numbers consistently...Carle is a 25-30 point defenceman, Carlson was on pace for near identical production in the post season + playoffs as a rookie... I expect Carlson to put upwards of 50 consistently on the Caps pp unit, and I expect incredible periphery stats (SHTOI, BS, +/-, Hits). This is one of the best young defenceman in the NHL, I expect big things from him, hence the overpayment.anton wroteCOLONthis is a bit ridiculous to me.

I thought 3 days? Oh well, I wasn't gonna beat that anyway.. good trade fellas!
Re: This Is What Happens When You Put PHI & WSH In the Same
Oh my Sweet Fuck....
I am glad that it is Kareem that overpaid and i know that if he tried to move those pieces individually he would have gotten a hell of a lot more in return. When i say i am glad it is him i mean because he has the assets to do it. If it wasn't WSH and another lower team did this is would almost be reviewable imo. But i did the same kind of thing for the 7th pick so I can see where Kareem is coming from...just amazed when you see it on paper.

it would be vetoed if the team couldn't afford to pay such a price.

I'm so glad I don't get into these bidding wars. Of course I don't have anything that anyone wants so I guess that will never be a problem.

And yet somehow I have a rep for ripping guys off...This is like the 7th time I have an incredibly lopsided offer to get the guy I want.sgupca wroteCOLONwhen Kareem says he's going to pay, he really does.

Re: This Is What Happens When You Put PHI & WSH In the Same
There seems to be some confusion over why I paid so much, so allow me to explain...I was over the cap by 1.5 million, and that was before the arbitration deals to Chris Stewart and Matt Moulson, both of whom are likely to get significant raises (from .875). My initial objective was to package Matt Moulson for a cheap scoring winger, and capitalize on a strong 30 goal season, a feat I dont not believe he will repeat. Unfortunately no one else did either, and this combined with his unknown salary demands made it increasingly difficult to move him for anything of substance that can help me now, keep in mind that I am structured salary wise to win now, similar to the NJD last season, so a deal for a prospect made little sense. Eventually, I gave up on trying to peddle Moulson for a significant winger, so I added Matt Carle and tried to peddle them as a package, I targeted every single team with the player I was looking for: Jamie Benn, Kyle Okposo, TJ Galiardi, Steve Downie, Wayne Simmonds, TJ Oshie etc. Essentially someone who can replicate what Moulson did this season at a affordable price (2 or less). I even spoke with Nate, and had a straight up deal in place with Benoit Pouliot, in the event that all else failed.
Midnight creeped closer, and I had literally nothing to show for 2 full days work of inquires, PM's, and full blown MSN convo's, so I thought I'd switch focus and try to package the two for a very good young defenceman who was controllable. As fate would have it, Bryan made John Carlson available, someone who I personally rank atop the list of young defenseman entering the NHL. Bryan is high on Carlson, and for good reason, he has strong all around production, is cheap and controllable for 2 seasons, and plays on the most offensive minded club in the season which will surely boost his offensive numbers and +/-. I started with a strong offer of Moulson + Carle + Werek for Carlson and Mcleod. I honestly felt this proposal was strong enough to complete a deal, pending one or two minor additions. ENTER FACEY...Nick got wind of this, and in an attempt to acquire a strong young player that fit his plans, and to prevent a division rival from improving with cheap young talent he took the bidding to a level I have not seen before. He matched every offer I had until 12:45pm (EST). He did a great job of increasing the cost, and anyone who knows me knows that I refuse to lose a bidding war, this is often a fault of mine, but it helps when you are after the same player in the future, people tend to back off when they hear I'm involved, sometimes avoiding a bidding war altogether.
So to conclude, John Carlson puts me about 2.5 unde the cap, enough to resign Chris Stewart, and hopefully add another good cheap forward, if I demote MSP.
