Clarification on fringe waiver eligible players.

I would like some clarification on one of my players that last season was waiver ineligible who I had in my minor league system. He was only ever used on my active roster as an injury callup, not that it mattered because he was ineligible. My question is, do i still have the right to keep him in the minors if that is where he finished the year last season? He is now waiver eligible player.

It's probably a similar question that Kyle is asking but I'd like to know if I have a guy that was in the minors through the last week of last season...that would have to clear waivers if recalled (I assume)...would they have to be sent back down again when my Week 1 lineup is submitted or is that player (or players) safe? Does that only apply to newly acquired players (not acquired through the waiver draft)?

No, if he is waiver ineligible as of the start of the season he CANNOT play in your minors without first passing through waivers.

So there is some grey area here. I have Trent Whitfield from last season who has never been in the big leagues. Yet you are saying he is now waiver eligible if i want to have him start in the minors? Thats not right. I thought we already clarified this? If this is not the case i would have dropped a couple of players when i could. I do not believe this rule applies to players on your team that you originally owned that have never been in the big leagues on your team...

I understand what your saying, but the way I read the rule is all waiver ineligible players who are in your minors must pass through again at the start of the season. I get hes never been called up and thats kinda bullshit, but I'm not sure how we'd police this otherwise.

The rule is simple, if the player is 28 or older, and/or has 150 NHL games played he cannot play in the minors to start the season without clearing waivers. This was discussed and debated, and this is the conclusion we all came to, it's impossible to police otherwise.
