Re: A new kind of banner

If you don't like the aesthetics of the banner, that's totally cool.
but the minute you say Ali is irrelevant in/to ANY sport, you sound like an idiot.

BTW great job Shiv, I fucking love shit like this, the punch line is awesome too, I loled.
Re: A new kind of banner
I think having our own players in our BBKL teams jersey's was a very cool touch and something we should encourage/keep up.
Ali is irrelevant to hockey, I'd enjoy you explaining to me the impact he has on the game, the fans or some portion of the hockey experience
it is a cool looking banner -> sorry for having an opinion.

fucking group of sheep we're turning into here.

asking how Ali is irrelevant to all sports is the equivalent of asking how jordan, gretzky, federer, schumacher, armstrong or tiger woods are irrelevant to sports (except imo Ali is a tier even higher). the thing that is great about ali is not just the magnitude of impact he had on his respective sport but the social impact that coincided with said impact on sport (read his biography/watch "When We Were Kings")facey wroteCOLONI think having our own players in our BBKL teams jersey's was a very cool touch and something we should encourage/keep up.

you're missing the part of the argument where all sports have a historical trajectory. and if you look properly you will notice how concurrent this historical trajectory is in terms of a sports development into a social phenomenon. the minute a dominant player like the ones mentioned above make that kind of impact, the trajectory of all sports changes. because its not about hockey or boxing or basketball or golf. its about sport. and each of those players changed the landscape of sports.
and btw if you want direct connections to hockey, combat sports (especially boxing) have the most metaphorical implications in ANY sport (there's a reason boxing is the sport about which the MOST movies are made by FAR). ask boogard/brashear what they think of Ali. Alis fight against Foreman was when the term "Rope-a-Dope" came to be. Ask goaltenders how they use that tactic when making the shooter think the 5 hole is open and then take it away. Ask the New Jersey Devils of the 1990s how to trap trap trap and then hit. another example thats HUGE was Ali's conditioning. one of his biggest edges in matches was his ability to be just as good several rounds into a match as he was in the first round while his opponents could not. that concept of conditioning has had a HUGE impact on ALL sports. im sure theres tonnes of examples.
p.s. if you notice above i said i have no problem with you not liking the banner. its saying how using Ali in my banner is somehow useless in a hockey forum lol. and as far as having players with our jerseys is concerned yeah its great. but why are you so against doing something new?
