8th overall + Etem for Skinner? I wouldn't necessarily say crushes. Nice pick-up, though.

Watching Skinner after he returned from injury this season was awful. 9pts in 28 games. Just 5 goals.

I also got armia for pirri. I agree i dont crush this but when it came down to it i had to do it. I still think it is a win.

a) home run for Steve. 6th + Armia + 44th for Etem & 8th. that's 2 spots back for a nice gain.

b) Shook smashes it too, Skinner & Armia for 8th, Etem & Pirri is crazy smart.

c) Cliff loses, fairly badly IMO. Skinner is still w/o a doubt the highest end potential in the deal, he's also the safest bet to score 30 goals - each peace cliff got is bigger risk, and not as high a ceiling.

Makes me want Skinner back at these prices!

I think to call Skinner without a doubt the highest ceiling is to be a bit hasty. There are plenty of similarly high-ceilinged (yes I made that up) player in the draft that should be around at 6th and even 44th. Skinner has regressed with each passing season in the NHL, and with a huge cap hit, and the cap coming down he may be a risky play. Shook gets the win short term for sure, but in the long run that remains to be seen.

You pretty much summed up the rational on bpth sides of every prospect trade lol. Trading away now in hopes of a better future lol. Most common bbkl trade.

jones and nurse will be great adds at the draft.

i didn't, that said, someone at the draft would offer him something insanely stupid for that pick and have taken jones, i need to ensure #1 was mine for that simple reason.

All you gotta do to know skinner is the highest ceiling player here is to watch any of his games - recently with Canada for example... simply unreal. There's no player @6th overall that is a safe bet to be a consistent 30goal player from their own play. Nichushkin perhaps, but sure from a safe bet in any regard - Shinkaruk a safer to some, but he's miles from what Skinner was at draft day or is today. Mantha a secret to some but worth watching as well.

Regardless, it's far too easy to get caught in the draft fever, to put prospects up on a pedestal - reality is far different, and a player like Jeff Skinner is extremely rare - much more so than a 6th overall selection. Brett Connolly, Derick Brassard, Milan Michalek, Scottie Upshall, Daniel Tkaczuk, *OEL*, Nikita Filatov, Sam Gagner, Gilbert Brule, Al Montoya, Rico Fata, Steve Kelly... History has to be appreciated or it is often repeated. Failing to acknowledge the likelihood of NHL transition is something that has been common in NHL and BBKL GMs all too often.

With multiple concussions, and a single 30 goal season is Jeff Skinner really a safe and consistent 30 goal scorer? And to point to draft picks in the past and assume that the value remains the same is to miss the development of scouting over time, to treat every player as identical (when in fact there are factors such as team mismanagement, injuries etc at play as well) and to assume that there are equal amounts of talented players available in each draft. Point is despite the apparent value of Skinner over those picks, he is far from a sure thing at this point in his career, and while no doubt a calculated risk on Cliff's part the trade is far from awful.
