When was this decided? I thought we were going the other way with it this year.

I'll leave my own opinion of how some decisions are made out of it other than to say that a decision was not made, so I assumed we'd use the same rules as last year.

No trading during playoffs? In otherwords you are sick of seeing us around and want a break? Hard enough to keep people interested in the offseason as is lol.

Which is exactly why I'll never vote for a non trading playoffs for non playoff teams.

On the flip side, 95 percent of those here are here for the long haul. Yes, viewership may wane in the off season, but the great majority of us are here for the long haul.

It's not just the trading between non-playoff teams that is troublesome, it's the trading by soon-to-be-elminated teams.

But there is also more logic than that.

The focus of the league SHOULD be on our playoffs during that time.

It magnifies the importance to the trade deadline (for at least a 4 week off-period, make your call on players or hold tongue for at least SOME period of time).

Really believing that playoffs or not - that this group of GMs is here to stay

In specific rules perhaps, but not in practice. The NHL's focus is definitely on their playoffs, we've had issues with that. The NHL's trade deadline is very real, ours, because of proximity to playoffs, is not. Small adjustments where the gain overcomes to cost is worth examining.
