Your pov buddy, you get arguably the best player sure, but he has maybe a year or two left to make an impact (and taking him on seems to contradict your stated goal of rebuilding in your other thread) as well as two mid to low first rounders. To acquire these pieces you gave up a very good H2H winger who potentially plays with Crosby/Malkin this coming year, your own goalie of the future (near future most likely given the age of Vokoun) as well as a waiver pick.

Edit: I am just over halfway through a twelve hour night shift so I may be out to lunch on this but was just my initial thoughts don't mean to rag on you buddy.

As you said, Jagr has maybe a year or 2 left. But could be a very important piece to a contender in a couple of months.

I went from Franzen to Kunitz to Jagr. Might look weird since I'm technically getting older but I know what I'm doing. I picked up 3 1sts throughout those trades and might be able to trade Jagr for a 1st.

4 1sts for Franzen? Yea I'm happy with that.

I'm good with my prospects/draft. I know exactly how good this draft will be.

And no worries, I can take some criticism, its all good.

But doesn't trading one proven piece (Franzen) for four unknowns whom you hope can replace him sometime in the next three+ years seem kinda backwards? Getting picks is all well and good but you need quality firsts as well i.e. not stl or pit.

I have Pacioretty, Doughty, McDonagh and Fleury as my core right now.

I have faith in my drafting skills and I have faith that I can draft a player better than Franzen in the long run. (Franzen has 5-6ish good years left, these prospects potentially have 18ish)

A boat is just a boat, but a mystery box could be anything ... Even a boat.

But 4 mystery boxes can be 4 newer boats.

Ill take the gamble tbh. I have a good gauge for prospect talent. These guys are my age anyways, I know friends of theirs/people who play in their league.

hm dispite the usual teeny behaviour he presents, his argument structure is quite good. i think i will never judge anybody based on age again (yes i used to) but kids are getting smarter and smarter nowadays

When Kunitz stops riding the coattails of Malkin/Crosby then he will become what he is.

Nothing wrong with this trade. If a "vet" GM was on Buffaloes side, people would talk about solid value for Kunitz. If Kion is active in the trade market and uses the firsts to his advantage, 4 months from now when Jagr starts hot like last year he could get a Kunitz level player straight up for Jagr. For the 5-6 months after our draft until December nobody wants picks. Once teams realize they aren't making the playoffs they start trading off a bit and wanting 1sts.

Depending on how he uses these assets, I see zero wrong with his deal.
