Clear win for Mik IMO especially before you consider you can't run 2 starters in this league, mason is probably in a platoon, all the cap Mik needs to cut plus the guys in his minors who are no longer waiver exempt

Meh I hold a lot of value in completing a system.
I think a lot of people will be pissed because of Mik hate blinders but I honestly feel I gave fair value for a potential starting goaltender in my system.
2019 1st likely will be 12-24 range so let's call it a mid first
Saarela imo the most valuable peice in this deal but with all the moves Carolina has made this offseason he likely starts in the ahl.
Pavelec is a player a month a go I probably would have released and not cared either way.

And that in of itself is the problem. You allowed Mik to leverage you in a situation where he had no leverage. Mason is worth maybe that 1st if he is the starter, but managed to get a high end prospect+a backup out of you on top of it bc you were so desperate to keep your system together.

This isn't Mik hate blinders. This is a team who is extremely over cap that you just overpaid for his goalie that came off a terrible year. You could have waited this out and gotten a goalie far cheaper imo.
And then guys say "Oh it's just Mik hate" , when it's not. I hate it when he gets overpaid despite being a top team way over cap. But I guess there are always going to be gms willing to give g
Top teams a way out. I guess that is what makes the top gms top for a reason.

you seem fairly confused on this.
He clearly needed Mason, while I didn't need to sell him, cause selling someone else I could have easily run with him & Darling, and top of that I had at least 5 teams interested in acquiring Mason. So your leverage theory seems totally off base here

You are going to be wayyyyy over the cap. You can't run both Mason+Darling in your lineup at the same time without going over gp limits and you can't bench Mason because you can't afford to have a 4 million dollar player on your bench. There are more more guys trying to sell goalies than buy
So yeah. Go ahead and talk to me again about how leverage works.

^(Two above) Agree. Mik is really never "backed into a corner". With so many valuable assets there will always be interested parties and someone willing to pay more. A little pricey for Billy, but again it completes his system and helps make him more competitive and it restacks Mik's assets. He's gonna have a great team forever at the rate things are going. Maybe eventually he'll win a championship...
.. so at the end of the day all the upsetness is definitely mik-related hate/jealousy/frustration.

Billy isn't gonna make the playoffs this year, imo. I see his first as being quite valuable. He threw away a couple high value assets to get goalie gp. I think this trade will end up like the Mike smith deal.

suppose I end up selling Kuz.. that would have fixed my cap already I think. I mean, I can always have Laine starting in the minors..
and I don't see GMs feeling the urge to sell starters either

Probably OK value if it was going to another GM even though I think that 2019 1st might be higher than Billy thinks. I do agree that Mik gets bailed out quite often when other GMs have leverage even if he wants to spin it like he didn't have cap problems he definitely did. Unless there is a bidding war for his players which can happen it would be nice to see GMs be more strategic knowing who they are dealing with and knowing they are helping them out by letting them cut cap. Seems like every time I've had to cut cap in a league it's difficult and I get a bunch of lowball offers and Mik always seems to get at least fair value or more.

Is it against the rules for every team with cap space to make a "no one makes or takes any offers from teams over the cap for the purpose of cap reduction until one day before roster lock" pact?
Asking for a friend.
